Do you have programming experience with PS3? I would chalk it up to companies trying to make the game for cross platform release, would you rather do everything once and have a similar look or would you rather make two almost completely different codes for the same game, just for some graphic perks on a system you have no loyalty to? Not to mention the maintenance in the code when a change arises. |
whoa calm down killer.
im just going off hearsay. i obviously dont have ANY programming experience myself, but from what i understand of the articles i have read, the PS3 is not necessarily that friendly of a hardware. i could be wrong, so dont take my word for it.

I'll pick this game up. It looks beautiful and I get enjoyment out of all the FF's, but I'm definitely not keeping my hopes up. The games have gotten progressively worse since the ps1 era but are still generally pretty enjoyable. I actually think 10 had the best turn based system, as i liked how there was no waiting bar, it just had the order of attacks on the upper right. That was great for all the little bullshit battles as you could go through them quickly.

I've been watching my brother play it and it doesn't seem too bad so far, until we met Hope and that chick with him. She's all over him and he's such a puss about it, then he's all nervous about talking to Snow like he's got a fucking crush on him or something. I think the game is trying to tell us something about him. Plus he looks like Tidus. Snow seems pretty damn cool though, they should have made him the main character.

I must admit, I am enjoying this much more than I anticipated.
The battle system, though radically different, is pretty fun and engaging (it also starts to get much more challenging with the Paradigm shifts and as the game progresses in general).
The music is also fantastic and the visuals are some of the best I have ever seen in my life.
It is quite "linear" so far, but honestly that has not been too much of a problem as of yet (think about how many games are just as linear). Although, I can't wait for the part where the game really opens up, the great story keeps you very immersed and invested.
As of now I would definitely recommend this. It's not the best Final Fantasy, but as long as you approach it with an unbiased and fresh take you will enjoy it.
I would like to reiterate how whimsical the music is.

My only gripe is the Crystalym doesn't let you grind. I just got a new path and its already maxed out with all the CP I still had left over. I miss the actual leveling up factor of RPG's it gives you a sense of accomplishment when your over or under leveled. I figure if they were just going to do a next generation Sphere Grid they could have handled it a little differently, but then again maybe when all the stories converge back the whole thing will work. Just an early opinion from me.
P.S. I'm scared to even begin leveling up weapons and accessories. Whenever I think about it I find a new one and don't know what to do.

I am the same way, I have a couple at level 6. It's worth it though, You will start finding more components.
Also, apparently weapons can be leveled up to like 100 so there is plenty of grinding I believe at some point, the game just hasn't opened up to that part for me yet.

| That's a good point Douche. X-2's dressphere system is basically just like the job systems from earlier FFs so it is kind of baffling that more people didn't like the game. I'm guessing a good 3/4 who claim to dislike actually never played it. |
Well switching jobs and having to play "dress-up" isn't exactly the same thing. It may have the same affect as far as the skills you get, and the fact in both cases you look different. But how you change to the "new job" and the emphasis on the change of clothing can detract from the game, for people who don't like that.
And Final fantasy X was decent, it had a mini-game i never played, but it had some interesting boss fights, and was fun.
Final Fantasy 12 on the other hand, which some people here expressed interest in. I personally didn't like. I thought the story line was kind of boring, and the battly system, it was easy.. And it was fun to make entire boss fight automated. i just put my controller down, and let me character and npcs go to work. With all these heal condition triggers. I remember having one primary healer, then if a person got below say 60% then two people were triggered to heal. And if a person got below like 30% like 3 people were healing... and anything below everyone was healing. Something like that.
----
As for the names being lame in FF 13... I can't complain with one of the characters being named Snow . Hopefully he's a cooler character that's just as awesome as the main character, if not better... especially if he joins your party be epic!!!
I'll see if i can play this somehow,
-Jon Snow

Really? Your hang up with the system and why you don't like the game is simply because it's called a "dress" as opposed to "job"? It's exactly the same otherwise and in fact, even better because you could change the dresses/jobs mid-battle if you needed to.
Again, play the game before you declare that it's "too girly" and you dislike it. Stop being so insecure and you'll have fun. It's just a game and a fun one at that.

Alright, like 22 hours in, my favorite team so far might be when Lightning gets paired with Fang. Rocking two commandos with "launch" is awesome. They are a devastating combo.

In general, I am a fan of most of the cast (Hope is a little "ehh", but every FF has that type of character). The cast is definitely an improvement over 10 and 12.

That would be my largest complaint is the RPness of it all.

My Zbrush teacher found this months ago back before I knew anything about the particular character arguably being underage. I wouldn't be surprised if the ESRB doesn't throw a fit over it a la Hot Coffee. If the model is still on the disk, and assuming the scene that uses it is, it probably still is.

You know Hope is a dude right?
I beat the game last weekend and it definitely opens up in chapter 13 but the thing that pisses me off is that you HAVE TO beat the game in order to max people out and get all ridiculous like.
I'm a trophy whore and the one trophy is max out everyone...that is going to take forever! and one more gripe. Gil is so ridiculous to come buy, and neccessary parts are 2 Mil for Weapon Upgrading. FUCK!

I've barely started, but "go straight, mash x, collect cp/5star rating" is yawn worthy so far. Though I've heard it gets much better! We'll see about that.

There comes a certain battle that pissed me off to a whole new level. This game is all about strategy and setting up staggers in the later goings. Good luck five starring all the Missions too.
