NES:

Mega Man 2 - The soundtrack alone would've done it for me, but this was the game that me and my neighbor played the most. And few things can match the satisfaction of getting through those damn quickbeams in Quick Man's level, or punking that dragon in the face at the end of the first Wily Stage.

Bases Loaded - Mostly because of how excited my dad was to get me this game for my birthday because he heard you could actually clear the benches in the game, and how cool I felt when I was finally able to make it happen.

SNES:

Chrono Trigger - Everything's already been said about this game, but I'll still pull it out at least once a year to play it through again. My all-time favorite.

LoZ: LttP - I remember being so amazed at hearing the rain on the castle roof in the opening sequence. I think that's where I got my infatuation with thunderstorms.

Sim City - The only version of the game that I liked.

N64 -

Goldeneye - I never even had to buy this game, all of my friends had it. We'd spend every afternoon after school for 3 solid months blowing the crap out of each other with proximity mines. And for the months before that game came out...

Mario Kart 64 - Still hasn't gotten old.

GBA:

Advance Wars - Best handheld game ever IMO.

PS2:

Kingdom Hearts - I got a little sick of the anime love story shit with Kairi, but that game was a nostalgia trip. I haven't been able to play it for a long time though, because every time I try to start a new game, I get annoyed with that opening island crap that took way too long and turn it off.

I think Goldeneye holds a special place in just about everyone's heart. It was the absolute most perfect multiplayer game ever made and many overnight marathons were dedicated to it around the world, I'm sure.

I'm in the minority on Goldeneye. Wasn't really impressed at all, and had more fun with WCW/nWo Revenge as a multiplayer game. :shrug

PC
--------
Oregon Trail - I'm pretty sure this was one of the first video games I EVER played, and it was so god damn epic as a kid, making it to that river at the end and dodging the rocks, which was pretty hard as a kid imo, but it might be really easy now, but it brings back so many great memories.

Genesis
--------
Pulseman - This game is only special to me for the simple reason, that it is the first video game I ever imported, and it's fucking awesome as well Razz

Rocket Knight Adventures - Another great game from my childhood, very innovative in the use of mechanics, and what I think, but am probably wrong, is the first implementation of jetpacks for use in a game. Very challenging on harder difficulties as well, and definately a game that anyone should check out if they see it anywhere.

Sparkster : Rocket Knight Adventures 2 - I didn't pick this game until a few years ago, because I had never heard of the game, and I picked this one up quick when I saw it. It removes the slow jetpack charging from the first game, and it's a lot like Sonic the Hedgehog in the sense of if you don't collect 7 Chaos Emeralds, you don't get the real ending, except in RKA 2, it's 6 Golden Swords. It's a great game and stands on the same level as it's precursor for me.

SNES
------
Wild Guns - An awesome game that I forgot from my childhood, but was reminded of it by "The Happy Video Game Nerd". It's a game set in the Wild Wild West, and you can either play as a cowgirl or cowboy, and instead of shooting up Indians, your shooting up mother fuckin' robots. You really don't play the game for the story, because if there is one, it's really shitty. You can shoot enemies bullets which will start to fill up this meter at the top of the screen to get a super gun which is AWESOME. Definately buy the game if you see it.

I too had fond memories of Oregon Trail but I couldn't leave well enough alone and had to revisit the trail. Doesn't really hold up that well now but then again it's only the first version. See for yourself, enjoy.

I never played Goldeneye WHEN it came out, nor was I aware of the hype surrounding Goldeneye, but if I could find someone who could actually get into Goldeneye instead of making it look like the characters are having sex with each other I may get into it.

Well, I'm glad Final Fantasy 7 is getting defended, as that's my answer too. It was the first in the series I ever played back in 1998 and me and a friend got hooked and spent an entire summer glued to the tv crying over Aeris, wasting money in the Gold Saucer and believing foolishly that we could beat Emerald Weapon.

I can understand how, if you were raised on the earlier Final Fantasy's, you might dislike 7. But when it's the first one you play, back when it was the most popular game on the market, it's an epic experience to be had.

Couldn't beat Emerald Weapon? Hint: the way I beat him involved Miming 'Knights of the Round'. Be patient, he has a million fucking hit points.

Most of my favorites were of course on the old NES.

Destiny of an Emperor-My favorite as a kid. A highly addictive RPG. I liked it even more than the first Final Fantasy.

Crystalis- Very Zelda-like but in many ways better. Just underrated due to the fact it never got enough press.

Blaster Master- Just fuckin cool, not much else to say. I memorized how to get through this one. That last level was a bitch.

Final Fantasy- Of couse! My first 'true RPG'. Still playing the series to this day.

And of course, The Legend of Zelda. Who doesn't like this game? Unless of course you were born in the nineties and think old graphics are lame.

I'd have to say Wild Arms 2 and the first two Shadow Hearts.

When I first received WA 2 I was immediately drawn in by it's style. I had never heard of the series until that point however I found myself liking the game so much that I traded my copies of FF Tactics and FF IX for it. Something about the feeling of exploration coupled with the music and the lengthy story and likable characters really clicked with me. Every chance I got I'd explore as far as I could, searching every open patch of the world for hidden buildings and dungeons. Every unique treasure I found felt like a big achievement and every new blip on the radar felt like a new adventure. I spent so many hours on that game I have many fond memories of it.

As for the Shadow Hearts games I played each one over a summer vacation. I have really fond memories of both of them and I was surprised to find they didn't have a bigger following. At the time I was a diehard FF VII fanboy and was surprised when I found that I liked the Shadow Hearts series a lot better then any FF I had ever played. I bought two first however that didn't ruin the experience of playing one. Yuri is a badass and it's a shame that their doesn't seem to be a chance of another SH.

Wild Arms (PS1): This was the first RPG I ever really sat down and played. I really got into it, and when Mother attacked Adlehyde and killed pretty much everyone, that's the first time I ever really felt like it was my duty to accomplish a goal in a video game, namely to kick some Mother ass. Many fond memories of this game. I also liked Wild Arms 2, but don't recall a lot of it, sadly.

Harvest Moon (N64/PS1/GBA): I've spent more hours on this game than I care to admit. It's just so addictive....and I don't know why.

Tomb Raider I and III (PS1): My uncle was the one who introduced me to the PlayStation 1, and Tomb Raider, Fighting Force, Alone in the Dark, and Wild Arms were the four games he bought from the get-go. He would give me Wild Arms (as he didn't realize it was an RPG, and didn't like it), but man oh man, did he love TR. I finally got to play it one day, and brilliantly decided to begin at the Great Pyramid. Needless to say, I wasn't expecting a ginormous Atlantean hellspawn to attack me right out of the gate, and I ended up backpedaling right off the platform and falling about 200 stories into the lava below, an inauspicious start to a series I would later grow to absolutely love. I loved TRIII, although I never really played II.

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64): Back before Ocarina, this was the most epic adventure game I ever played. I rented this game so many times, the video store eventually just ended up letting me keep it. The music wrapped itself into your brain, the gameplay was great, and the game was so Japanese, you couldn't help but love it. The music that plays when you fight Congo in Oedo Castle was both memorable and fit the mood perfectly, despite the fact that he was a pushover.

Chrono Cross (PS1): I was young when I played this game, so I don't recall a lot of the game and its plot, but I know it had a great battle system. I would love to dig this one up and play it again, now that I can actually understand it.

Super Smash Bros. (N64): I played this game endlessly throughout the week I rented it. Literally, sunup to sundown I would play it. Alone.

Pokemon TCG (GBC): I loved Pokemon cards, but a big issue I had was that I had no one to play with, really. This game solved that dilemma. I wasn't very social when I was younger, if you haven't noticed.

Some of them:

Tombi! 2 - Best.
Medal of Honor - Second best. I pretty much love the soldier walking all by himself and shooting enemy thing. Not to mention the music which is one of the most amazing things to reach my ears.
Diablo II (+expansion) - Also second best.
Mortal Kombat II - I remember that I knew how to do some fatalities. Considering that I was 3-4 years when I spent an amount of time playing this.
Pirates of Dark Water - More chilhood memories...

Recent stuff:

Half-Life 2(+episode one and two)
Portal
Fahrenheit
Shadow of the Colossus
Mafia
World of Goo
Samorost
Samorost 2
Virtual Reality
Manipulator

I played the two Tomba!/Tombi! games a lot when I was younger, and still go back to them once in a while.

I remember getting stuck somewhere for a very long time in both games, and finding how to get through them ON THE SAME DAY.
That felt really fucking awesome. I even was sick that day. I'm better when I'm tired sometimes.

I remember playing Tomba and Einhander over and over on the PSX Sampler 7. That was always my favorite sampler, I ended up getting 8 when I finally managed to get one though. I really liked both of those games however the only one I ever really got a chance to play was Einhander. Tomba seemed like it could be really fun though. I really liked it's style.

NES:

Trog!- I used to play this all the time back in the day. I really need to buy another copy.

Clash at Demonhead- I hate Japanimation but this game can pull off the art style. Everybody needs to play this. If you don't like it then you're a dirty commie who worships Satan and eats babies.

Wrath of the Black Manta

Battletoads

Destiny of an Emperor- I never really got far into this but the epicness was undeniable.

North & South- Probably the best multiplayer game on the NES.

Mega Man 1, 2, and 3

Both Zeldas

All the Super Mario Bros. games

Fester's Quest

SNES:

Pac-Man 2- I love this game. It's AWESOME. If you don't actually feel like playing it you can just piss off Pac-Man and screw around. The only real problem is that it's so short.

Mega Man X

Time Slip- I'll always remember this but I'm not sure why.

Street Fighter II: Turbo- The Genesis version is better in my arrogant opinion but this is the one I used to play.

Sim City

Chrono Trigger- I didn't even beat this game half-way since I have motivational problems when it comes to to playing games to completion. I always watched my brother and cousin play it and saw the story unfold, which to me is the main reason to play RPGs. Probably teh gr8est rpg evar lol

Raiden Trad

Super Mario World

A Link to the Past

Interplay's "clay" games (Clay Fighter, Clay Fighter II, and Claymates)

Super Nova

Nintendo 64:

Mario Kart 64

GoldenEye

Kirby 64

Super Smash Bros.

Genesis:

Altered Beast

Eternal Champions- I'm not big on fighting games but this one is pretty cool.

Golden Axe

Herzog Zwei- I obsessed over this game for a probably two or three years before actually playing it. I bought it probably in the middle from some rip-off site for forty dollars and it never came. I bought it on eBay for a more reasonable price after a while and actually got my money's worth. It's a really underrated game and is almost an RTS. It's one of those games with the type of multiplayer mode where you play all night long while being kept awake solely by your excessive caffeine intake.
PC:

WarCraft: Orcs & Humans- My first exposure to WarCraft. I remember being like two or three and watching my older brother playing what was probably an alpha or beta version. Me and my younger brother both distinctly remember ogres wearing glasses and I remember orcs riding scorpions and being able to build them from the barracks. I eventually got a copy for my eighth birthday (six years after it came out, but I didn't care at all) and loved it. I still play it occasionally even though I'm not the xHARDxCOREx gamer I once was.

WarCraft II- This game is simply the thing that turned me into a nerd. When I wasn't playing it I was fantasizing about it.

Spy Fox in Dry Cereal- A kiddie game but an extremely fun one.

Command & Conquer (first two Tiberian games and the first two Red Alerts)- Turned me into a war geek. Like a lot of the other games on here, the Command & Conquer games have a bodacious soundtrack and really influenced my taste in music.

Castles II: Siege and Conquest- Really good game I remember from my early childhood. It's abandonware, so DOWNLOAD IT NAO.

StarCraft

Diablo- I remember watching the trailer on the WarCraft II CD and always remembered how awesome the mana and life things looked being held up by those claws (taken out in the final version). I always thought it was satanic and stuff. I recently played it and found it repetitive but whatever.

Wolfenstein 3D/Spear of Destiny- "SCHUTZSTAFFEL!"

DOOM/DOOM II/Final DOOM- These games are made of pure, unadulterated win. While not as strategic as Wolfentstein, it's faster paced and the atmosphere is even creepier.

Dune 2000- Got me into reading the books and watching the awesomely trippy David Lynch movie.

Gaycube

Animal Droppings- I spent a lot of time playing this game until my homeboy Gonzo moved away and couldn't find the memory card the data was on. It's a complete waste of time and taught me how lame games like it and World of WarCraft are. Tom Nook's a douchebag, too.

Super Smash Bros. Melee- Inferior to Brawl but back before the Wii came out it ruled.

Soul Calibur II

Midway Arcade Treasures

TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect

Goblin Commander- Really Herzog Zwei-ish and underrated. It blew my mind when I first played it.

DS:

Advance Wars- More addictive than crack and fun to play on long road trips or when taking a dump.

The original Soul Blade on the PS1 a friend who is now deceased and I played that so much that it was hard to finish a match because we could each block about 90% of the other persons blows and we always had a rule: No Throws!. Plus i still have the original cd, so it is kinda a small thing but it is important to me.

Also, Rush'n attack for the NES, I remember being very young, it was morning on a Saturday or Sunday and we got a phone call., that my Great Grandmother had died after having a stroke..I think she was 87. Anyway, this was really my first experience with death, and i was sad and angry as you can imagine. So while my parents were on the phone or doing various things that you do when someone you cares about dies, I got on my NES and played whatever was in the system, it happened to be Rush'n attack. I played and cried at the same time and tried to take my anger out on pixels. So it is strange but i will never forget this game.

Sorry these are kinda sad and depressing Smile

Klonoa for the Playstation. It's one of the first games I remember playing, and I hold it high regards even today. Ah I miss the old days.

After accidentally sitting on my N64, Starfox 64 now has a very special place in me.

All humor aside, Twin Eagle (NES) and Ocarina of Time will always be close to me. Twin Eagle was one of my first NES games, and my dad and I spent hours on it, never able to beat it.

Ocarina of Time was definitely one of the first games that I ever completely beat, and looking back, I realize why I had the motivation to play through the entire game. It is just amazing.
