I didn't know they could run away. As for 2, dead counts either way. I'm tentative to say that as long as they're gone, they count.

Is there a second tiebreaker, like health left after defeating last grunt/boss reached? I always reach the same place against a boss no matter if I have 0 or full health.

You know what this challenge needs? A boss gauntlet! Sorry for not giving you a chance to guess. Anyway, your task is to defeat as many bosses as possible in a row without dying. The final form of the last boss will count as a seperate boss. All other bosses will count as 1. As far as weapons go, you may either use your primary katana or any and all of the 50 shots of the secondary weapon I'm mercifully allowing you to use. You may not use the psychic shockwave, which is the second weapon displayed on the screen. The more bosses you defeat, the better you place. Ties will be broken by the number of hearts left after your most recently defeated boss.

It took me over 50 tries to defeat the Dragon Twins. Then I accidentally realized how to beat them and they became the easiest bosses ever (with a weapon).

Seriously, just download the movie file and turn on "Display Pad Information" to see what I mean.

Wow I'm surprised I wasn't dead last (glad there's others as crummy as I am at this game). Nice run Lava; I am completely outclassed at NES games by you guys at the top.
