Amen. I had no idea he had died...and you're right, he was without a doubt the best Kano ever.

The MK video game team agreed, too. They had originally envisioned him as British, but after the first MK movie came out, they gave Kano an Aussie accent in the next game (MK: DA) and thereafter in his honor because they liked his take on the character so much.
