District 9 Blu-Ray to Include God of War 3 Demo

Sony has a firm grip on the high definition movie market with Blu-Ray, and we've wondered when they would leverage that with their games business. The company announced today that a playable demo for God of War 3 will be available with the Blu-Ray release of District 9. Completing the demo will unlock an exclusive making-of video about the game. "We are thrilled to give consumers not only an incredible high definition presentation of District 9 and the wealth of bonus material about the movie, but also a taste of what is destined to be the biggest video game of 2010," said Sony's executive vice president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Lexine Wong.

This is probably the same demo as the one that will be released with the God of War Collection, which is set to come out over a month earlier. Most eager franchise fans will probably have had their taste for God of War 3 several times over. Still, the exclusive clip might entice some fans to jump on, and it should serve as a good sales tool for more casual players.

God of War 3 Release Date Announced

God of War 3 finally has an official release date, and it's already less than two months away. While we already knew the game was set for sometime in March, Kotaku reports that the game has been narrowed down to March 16. Mark your calendars now; use a red pen or marker to remind yourself of the bloodbath that will ensue on screen.
Interestingly, the date for this PlayStation 3 exclusive places it only a week after the release of Final Fantasy XIII. The RPG isn't exclusive to the PS3 anymore, but its legacy and development are still strongly associated with Sony. Fans who can only afford one will have to make the choice, though we're sure more than a few will spring for both and feast on ramen for a while.

that means i have to get a PS3 between now & then.

I bought the collection and have refused to play the demo. I want the whole game to be a complete surprise. I'm gonna be one of those people buying both.

It's nice to know that PS3's are being bought for the same reason that I bought a Gamecube.

No Install for God of War 3

Storage space on today's consoles can come at a bit of a premium, especially for those of us still rocking the 20 GB PlayStation 3 from the system's launch. A few years of DLC, PlayStation Network games, and mandatory installs are enough to make any hard drive cry out for mercy. Fortunately, mercy often comes from where you least expect it; God of War 3 will not have an install option when it releases next month.
MTV Multiplayer spotted a Twitter post from Sony Santa Monica's director of technology Christer Ericson, who explained how God of War 3 is designed to stream to the system's cache rather than requiring an install from the outset. That means the latest God of War won't be requisitioning any of your precious storage space -- other than the 5 MB required for save files, anyhow.

The series has boasted virtually no load times since its inception back in 2005. We'll see if the lack of an install has any effect on God of War 3's loading when it hits store shelves March 16.

And people were saying the PS3 shortage was a myth.

I thought it was all PR shenanigans as well. Having games that can push systems means you can run out of systems. More at 11.

God of War III Session Results in Actual Broken Bones

Playing God of War III can be dangerous business, it seems. Witness one player who apparently got so into the game that they actually managed to break their hand in the process.
Gizmodo has the x-ray, which was sent to them by a physician saying that one of their patients go so "caught up in playing God of War III that he rolled over his hand with his knee and broke two fingers." The unnamed physician said that it was the first time he had seen "such an extreme gaming injury."

It's actually difficult to imagine how this might have occurred. Maybe the injury occurred after he had set down the controller to watch a cutscene?

Regardless, we have to feel bad for this poor God of War fan. It can't be comfortable holding the controller with a broken hand.

I'll bet he broke it during the Aphrodite titty cutscene. Furious fapping can be dangerous.

So here's the deal. God of War 3 has so many absolutely mind blowing moments that epic doesn't describe it.

Like when the camera goes to Poseidon's POV just so you can see how ridiculously brutal and heartless Kratos is or when you're crawling on Cronus and that half formed cyclops pops out of his shoulder and you have to mount and pilot it to increase the already glaring gash in his shoulder.

It's all just delightfully absurd and there's far more ridiculousness. Obviously not the best game ever, but it's just plain ridiculously fun. I look forward to finishing it tomorrow.

2 is still the best in my opinion for overall feel and game play, 3 really pushed the scale and graphic boundaries, I just wish they could have tied it up a little neater, although I hear a add on is in the works so that might sort out any issues I had with the story.

Yeah, apparently they didn't get the ending they wanted in, which is disappointing. I just started on the labyrinth section I guess, just finished a boss fight on top of boxes.

Apparently, Rip Torn is the voice actor for Hephaestus...with his recent press, I would have thought he'd be better as Dionysus.
