Visually, I think most is crap, while some is nice. I've done a little stenciling back in the days, though in the comfort of my home and on my own possessions. The notion of making graffiti legal on private property disturbs me to the core.

Well, when do you ever see murals in the suburbs? Never. The only places I've ever seen them are Chelsea, Boston, and possibly Revere, all of which severely need them.

I have a better idea.

Each would be spray painter should take their time away from spray painting shit and devote it to picking up all the AIDS needles on the beaches.

Give the towns one week and it would be safe to go to the beaches again.

Revere and Chelsea are dirty fucking holes that need enemas.

I find graffiti inside of public toilets to be far more interesting. Once saw this little poem, and committed it to memory:

"Some come to shit and stink
Some come to sit and think.
I come to rest my balls
and read the bullshit on the walls."

K, after reading some really good points, I am conflicted. There are areas that are in great need of some form of color. At the same time, permission should be granted. Maybe we just need more open-minded business owners. Alternately, maybe graffiti doesn't have to be on buildings. Skateparks (obviously), trains, the bottomside of bridges, sidewalks even. If done properly, they can bring a lot of color and brightness to seedier areas.

Cool mural style Graffiti I have no problem with. Shitty gang Graffiti that gets tagged and re tagged over and over and ends up looking like the scrawlings of a retard I do not approve of.

I agree on the tagging style. It it is pretty much illegible and looks like crap.

Just tonight I had a guy come in late in the evening to use the men's room and he took his sweet time in there. I figured he just had a big log to drop or whatever but it turns out he spent the time tagging 3 spots in the men's room with his gang's signature (the back of the door, the tp dispenser and over the whole mirror) using a wax/oil marker. He came out once when he discovered there was no hand soap in there, nor anywhere else in the store (without y'know, actually spending money) and went back in. This made me think he might've had a wound he was trying to clean our something. When I went in after he'd left to spray lysol, I was mad I didn't have my digicam with me to take pictures of the marks, but at the same time, he used stuff that was pretty easy to remove with some Windex.

That being said, I'd be pretty pissed if the bastard decided to try tagging the ceiling.

Gang signs/tags are the ones I can't stand. They are the ones that you wouldn't know what the hell it said unless you happened to either be in the gang or ask one of the members. It is the kind of crap that looks like this:

I live in a town with relatively low crime but I still manage to see these kind of tags from time to time. The one above was on Google Image Search but they are the same kind of illegible tags I referred to earlier.

Play the x-box sequal "jet set radio future"

Well then why not put up a wall somewhere or use an existing one that is hardly ever seen and make it legal for graffiti there

Because for the most part, that wouldn't work.

I am against any form of vandalism, including graffiti. I'm not sure if any of you have heard about the broken windows theory before, but its worth reading about if you think graffiti not a big deal. I will also add that my neighborhood has been working on a large revitalization effort to improve the community from such problems and property values have indeed gone up over the last two years.

Here is one article that explains the broken windows theory if your interested.

Because it is still destruction of property. And even if the property owner agreed then you'd have people fighting over it. Like if you spray over somebody's work people would get pissed. Not to mention all the gang crap. "Oh you sprayed over my lame looking illegible tag...time to die!"

I don't have any problem with it if it is severely artistic and well done, and in not too conspicuous or offensive of places. Clearly I would be offended if some douche graffiti'd a really nice statue or defaced a wall of a historic building, but if its something that more fits the racial stereotypes than I dont really have a problem with it.

Wasn't there some sort of shitty video game based on graffiti? Like Marc Echo Gettin' it or something? I remember something like that for original Xbox.

Yes. It was called "one of the never ending GTA;SA side missions."

I loved that side mission! It helped to discover alleyways/future getaway spots. And the spray paint doubled as a weapon Cool

That doesn't count, because really you just stood there and hit a button, the guy's arms flailed and then the picture came up. I was talkin like an actual graffiti game.

Back on topic.

I'm sick of seeing teenager's stupid proclamations of love for each other carved into innocent trees! The act of carving into a tree is destructive and pointless, much like 99% of teenager relationships. If you two really love each other enough that you have to shout it to the entire world do this instead.

Plant a tree that will flourish and grow, hopefully like your budding relationship. If the relationship tanks, cut the tree down for some firewood, that way you can at least be toasty warm by the fire while you listen to emo music and cry. Rolling Eyes

Down the street from my place, they were building this huge apartment block. When they filled the cement, my sister's boyfriend's cousin decided to proclaim his love to her by writing shit all over the sidewalk. My sister and her boyfriend were so pissed. I just shook my head.

If they break up they are obligated to split the cost of the new cement. Mad

No worries there. The city did such a half-assed job laying down that cement that it was all cracked the next day. So it got replaced anyway.
