This game is best played on a TV where you can kick back and relax. I vote SNES unless you have an emulator and hook it up to a TV.

As for the 3D conversion:
The worst thing they did with FFIV DS is increase the difficulty. The game is about the story, not grinding fucking monsters who all have one cheezy instant kill option. FFII/FFIV for systems other than DS were better. If they make FFVI with an increased difficulty I would never play it. These damn games are too long to make them tedious. Also breaking up the story by throwing in grinding sucks.

I don't know what your problem is. I don't usually die in that game at all and thats with little to no grinding. Blink, Berserk and Slow are your friends. Especially with Dual Cast and Omnicast on Rosa. The only grinding I did was to get enough tails to have everyone with all the Onion Gear. Put draw attacks on Cecil with an Onion Shield and monsters rarely kill anyone.

I have Cecil at level 70 with the Excalibur, and the rest of the party is 60-68. I can't even get to Bahamut. I can't get to a save point inside the final dungeon. I get wiped by anything that can cast.

Also, I use the enhancing spells all the time. I swear my fucking game is quirky or something. Edge can be one shotted by almost every enemy, Kain is slow as hell, Rydia and Cecil are both badass, but Rydia is slow to cast and her summons are awesome, but her black magic spells suck.

I have been trying to gain levels to improve my odds, but it is a very slow process since gaining levels against things that kill you isn't a good idea at all and things that are too easy don't give the EXP.

Put Fast Talker on Rydia, put Edge in the back row with reach. The Wizards and Moon Maidens can be a bitch but once you got the equipment from the final dungeon its cake. Also if you wanna level up buy some alerts from the Hummingways, go to the underworld. Park your ass right in front of the sealed cave. Equip someone with the Level Lust ability. Rack up the experience from the Green Dragon around 20K+. Plus you can get some Green Tails, if your lucky.

I don't have a clue as to where you get any of that shit. I certainly didn't get it by just playing the game. If you can't beat a game by playing it straight forward, it fucking sucks. How did one of my favorite games of all time become such a cluster fuck? Now I have to look shit up online to figure out how to beat a game I have already beaten.

The way augments function is pretty messed up. It's nice that you can add new abilities to your characters. My problem with the game is that they don't tell you that you have to put a certain amount of augments on characters like the bard and Yang if you want some of the more useful augments in the game. It's also pretty bad that you only have a limited number of playthroughs to work with. It's still a pretty fun game though. One thing I do like is the darkness augment. I love that ability and I assigned it to Cecil my first playthrough despite knowing it would be put to better use in the hand's of Kain.

This is what is called a Guide Dang It. I wholeheartedly agree, and I've put the game aside because I was paranoid of when I could hold off on giving augments to Cid and Yang (I'm about to go into the Underworld). Now that I finally know those exact points for Cid I just need to know the last chance I have to give Yang anything, I just want his Kick augment, Brace or Focus (whatever the 2 augment one is) I could care less about.

Hopefully they can include the system in future DS installments if they are considering porting any more of them.

After Lugae and before he "dies" then you get the augments in the Sylph Cave later on. Kick is an awesome Level 99 Onion Sword Counter to have. Even better with Kain and Limit Break Smile

Seriously... they couldn't just make the fucking thing 3D?

FFIV The After Years is awesome and it doesn't have any of these fucking issues.

If I am ever rich and famous I am buying the damn rights to FFIV and making a real 3D version of it and putting it on a real console without any of this crap.

I was kind of hoping they'd make FFV 3D. I prefer FFV to IV any day although I can't really explain why. A 3D port of that game would be really cool.

EDIT: In my last post I meant to say that I would like to see the augment system if they managed to fix it and not make it so hard to use, my mistake.

Adding new depth to a game thats almost 20 years old is bad? People would complain that its the same thing only 3-D and others, like you, complain it's too difficult or that you need to consult a guide because it's too different. I love when they add new elements to games I have memorized, cause guess what it's a lot different. Was it a hell of a lot harder. Hell Yes. Was it damn fun, Hell Yes. Would I like it if it were just a 3D version of the SNES one. Not at all. I know that FFIV is like your baby and everything but pull out your tampon and embrace something other than "Just another remake" Laughing

I love FFVI, but thats because it was the first really good Final Fantasy I'd ever played. I mean, FF1 was pretty good, but VI had the epic story, the slew of characters, the dark world, the batshit insane villian. It was epic.

FFV I prefer mechanically, the job system is flexible and rewarding and there are very few dead ends and almost no wastes of time(even the bard can be useful. Kinda). The story is refreshingly upbeat, or its melodramatically sad (the water drake dying emits a particularly mournful sound), but in all situations avoiding excessive angst. But FFVI holds a dear place in my heart, for showing me what RPGs could do. You could very well say that VI was my VII.

You should buy VI, or get the GBA remake of V. Skip III, and consider IV on the DS.
