That's the point. People fear the very mention of the name. Hitler's like a troll on a forum. He's got everyone's attention. Mission Accomplished.

Hitler essentially saw himself as a God. And now he's mentioned in the same breadth as Lucifer, Ghengis Khan, Pol Pot and so on. I think he'd be happy to know that his name still carries that kind of influence, good or bad.

I can't say people fear the name as much as despise the name. It's like if anyone mentions B.B. King, you just get a bunch of people talking about how big of a douchebag he was. I certainly wouldn't name my child after him cause I liked the name.

Vladimir Von Ţepeş is a cool sounding name too. But, do you want to name you child after known as the "Impaler" who was so cruel and evil that he influenced the story of Dracula?

Now that we live in the age of the internet, look at the screen names we give ourselves. Douche McCallister is the only name I know of for said person, we all call him Douche, that's his name. I plan on giving my kids some pretty strange names, but with probably a normal middle name so they have the option. All I know is, if I met someone tomorrow named Adolf Hitler, I would be surprised once and after that I wouldn't care. Sure its got to be a pain in the ass at times but you can always give yourself a nickname.

This is somewhat off topic but how did everyone here choose their names?

Mine was inspired by Gimpy's screen name on Undergrads, except I used my first initial and was too lazy to hit Caps Lock.

This one is trycky. I'm very SOCIALLY liberal, as in I think that a person should be able to do just about whatever they want as long as it doesn't hurt anybody else. I think that on one hand it is your child so yeah, name it what you want. On the other hand giving the child a name like Adolf Hitler is hindering their pursuit to happiness, as they are likely to experience much hassle, including possible beatings merely for their name.

Saying the Adolf Hitler is just a name is the most fucking stupid thing I've ever heard. It is just a name, but to pretend like there isn't endless heinous connotations that go along with that name is fucking retarded, and expecting people to not be offended by it is even more so. Disaster is just a word, but it has a meaning, and like it or not, Adolf Hitler has taken on a meaning, not specific, but it pretty much elicits immediate thoughts of hatred and evil. Boo Hoo, sorry you can't name your kid adolf hitler, there's only like 7 billion name combinations that don't have a negative stigma attatched to them.

Campbell said he was raised not to avoid people of other races but not to mix with them socially or romantically. But he said he would try to raise his children differently.

typo?

The children should be taken away from those parents by DYS for child abuse and given new names. You can make a case for naming your kid Adolf Hitler, but NOT for naming your daughter Aryan Nation (even as middle names).

If this was New Zealand, we could just change the kids' names:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/2452593/%27Talula-Does-The-Hula-From-Hawaii%27-not-a-girl%27s-name,-New-Zealand-court-rules.html

Sadly, that would never fly in America.

This is not a question of being ALLOWED to name a child after something despicable; of course you should be allowed. But the question is: should you? No matter what this guy says about raising his children differently than he was raised, his racism and intolerance is blatant and he is using his children's names as an experiment. Whether the parents are using those names as a tribute to their beliefs or if they are for pure shock value, he is disrespecting his children from the day he signs that birth certificate. I'm not saying that these children will definitely turn out to be ignorant and intolerant as well, but Nature and Nurture seem to be in bad shape with this family.

Celebrities do stupid crap like this all of the time:
How about a name like Apple? Does this name conjure an image of Satan tempting of Eve? Maybe, maybe not. Is Apple a stupid name? Yes. But, it's broad enough not to evoke a negative image in the way a super specific name like Adolph Hitler does.

It's essentially an intolerant person trying to use intolerance as a tool against others out of spite.

"Oh, you don't like my kid's name? Grow up, you're so fucking intolerant."

It's clever in an evil sort of way.

I don't care what the name is (still I wouldn't name kid Hitler) unless they were being abused then the can't take the kids. Although naming your kid Hitler could get him beaten up in the future

Glad they were removed. Naming your kids like that is pretty much child abuse.

I hate to be raining on the parade here, but this is a dangerous precedent. While a reasonable case be potentially made that naming your kid "Adolf Hitler" is child abuse, the names of the other children are fine. "Aryan Nation" as a middle name doesn't matter. Your middle name is never legally required of you, and the kid can always change it when they get older. We have no right to tell people what they can and cannot name their children. Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter Apple. Demi Moore named ones of her daughers Tallulah Belle. These names are at least as idiotic as Hitler, but you won't see charges brought against them because they're celebrities.

Unless it comes out there was some sort of tangible abuse going on in that home, this is pretty appalling. The federal and state governments have no right to tell you what to believe or how to raise your children. If want to teach your children that people rode dinosaurs, that there's a flying spaghetti monster in the sky, that Hitler was a nice guy, or any equally moronic thing, that's your right. It may be stupid, it may be scary, but that's fucking freedom. Live with it.

Teaching your children that the Holocaust didn't happen and decorating your home with swastikas is brainwash.

While it is possible that the child may grow up to be a decent human, it is unlikely. They will grow up cursed with the hatred of an evil dictator.

Naming the child is the parents business, but educating the child that real events were false and preaching hate... these are things that are abusive.

If you are able to selectively deny history, then why not selectively deny government, laws, etc.

This kid WILL be fucked up and on purpose. The parents aren't being fair to the child by denying it a reasonable chance to survive in American culture.

So no, the name itself isn't a reason to remove the child, the rest of the shit they do is.

Anything you teach children is brainwashing. Teaching your kid that the Holocaust never happened is no more brainwashing than teaching your kid that they should accept personal responsibility for their actions or that abortion is a constitutionally guaranteed. You are forcing your beliefs onto them. The fact that one belief is more controversial than the other, from a developmental standpoint, is irrelevant.

Also, your parents do not dictate who you are. Look at the two sons of President Reagan, Michael and Ron. Michael Reagan is a conservative icon who wholeheartedly embraced his father's teachings; Ron is a joke.
