I'll save you some time. Just spend 10 minutes browsing Encyclopedia Dramatica.
You'll see far more than you ever could want.

How do you say that word? |
Umm...I always pronounced it "mehmm". |
I do too, because I took French for 10 years. Même means "same" in French, and that's a fairly appropriate description of how memes work; they are common symbols that become part of a shared consciousness through repeated reproduction. Unfortunately, the etymology of "meme" is far less intelligent. Richard Dawkins basically pulled the word out of his ass. The terms "memetics" and "meme" were chosen because they sorta rhymes with "genetics" and "gene". Oh Richard Dawkins, you complete fucking idiot.
So yeah, "Meem" is how it's supposed to be pronounced, but that sounds stupid. Even stupider is "Meemee", which is the most popular pronunciation I've encountered.
The whole idea of memetics is generally regarded as oversimplified garbage in the mainstream philosophical community anyway. Personally, if I didn't already know that the concept was invented by a complete douchebag, I might be willing to give it creedence.

Originally I started this thread because the lemons in the lemon party image were all orange.
Being that I enjoy Photoshop, I was always curious to know why they weren't yellow.
So I made them yellow and asked.
Now the thread is about the meaning behind the Lemon Party and the dare of "will you be dumb enough to look it up?"
For me, the answer was to go to google and search "Lemon Party Wikipedia". The result was the following article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shock_site#Lemonparty.org
At this point, I feel bad for anyone who actually goes to see that image. I have not seen it and pray to god that I never do. Knowing what it is, anyone who chooses to go forward and see it is asking for horrible dreams and nightmares.

He hardly pulled it out of his ass. The memetics/genetics analogy is integral to the whole concept so it makes sense to choose a similar sounding word. And etymologically it derives either from "memory" or some Greek word like "μνημη" or "μιμος". I'd have to ask my sister to be sure however, I only took half a year of Greek before I gave up.

It's pretty popular among cognitive scientists. I don't know why exactly. It doesn't have any actual value in terms of research. The closest thing to an experimental approach I've ever heard about was at a cognitive science conference where a Japanese graduate student told me about his work on a computer simulation that was part of his PhD and supposed to model memetics on a small scale. I didn't really understand how he wanted to implement that because a) his English was hard to follow and b) he just sat down next to me during breakfast and started talking about memes and evolutionary models while I was trying to eat my cereal and cope with a hangover from the previous night.

Goatse is the only image burned in my head. I've seen most of them, but only that one really stuck with me.

I pronounce meme as "may-may" and it's gonna stay that way. Just like me pronouncing the forumer Tebor as teh-bor and not TEA-bor.
2g1c made my stomach turn the way they just... ugh.

they're yellow, it's just a lowlight environment. If you're one of those people who refers to Yellow American Deli Cheese as orange, I will punch you.

When I was younger my father was a food broker. He mainly distributed frozen foods and cheese. When he would come back from sales meetings or conventions he would bring blocks of cheese home. The blocks they have at the deli counters.
Unfortunately I was lactose intolerant. I remember hating that half of our fridge was stocked with all of that nasty fucking cheese.
All that fucking yellow and white cheese.
Who ever heard of fucking orange cheese?
Now, back to the Lemon Party. Low light or not, they are orange. Lemons are supposed to be yellow. It is for the best if lemons look yellow when they are yellow.

You made them a little too yellow. Make them slightly less and I'll use it. That or I could just apply a 1.67 Gamma Correction to it. That makes it look natural.

Original:
First Yellow:
Nuclear:
More Natural Yellow:
Note: the images I worked with I used an overlay filter on the entire image to make the background less faded. It isn't a color filter over the entire image. The lemons were masked, filtered using a screen, and had their Hue, Saturation, and White balance adjusted. On the original yellow one, I had the saturation too high. On the nuclear one I used a blending filter of inner glow and outer glow set to #00ff00 or RGB 0 255 0.
The entire process takes about 30 seconds to a minute after the selection is made. With CS3 the Quick Selection tool is amazing for picking up the three lemons on the left of the picture, but the one on the right requires using the Polygonal Lasso tool and tracing. I'd say about 2 minutes with a trackpad, but if I had my drawing tablet it would have only been 30 seconds or so.

Honestly, I'm more partial to the nuclear one, but that's just me. Otherwise, I'm apathetic.
