Really? I thought the only part of Salute Your Shorts that didn't age well was Budnick's haircut.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

I DO remember being somewhat saddened when Artie told little Pete he was leaving for good. That was pretty damn sad, Artie was friggin' aweschum.

The psychological component involving the "elbow" in the "King of the Road" episode was really justified and true... I guess.

The only episode I remember is one which involves one of the Petes being grounded for life for burning down Dad's Kentucky bluegrass in the frontyard.
Anyways, that series has the greatest theme song ever. It stuck within my head since the very first time I listened to it and I finally learned how to play it on the guitar.

That was a great episode! There are so many axioms and metaphors (like Seinfeld) interspersed throughout the show that it becomes almost a 'Book of Life.' "Pete & Pete" holds the edge for being more surreal and more kid-friendly. Artie FTW!!!; dancing to "Love Rollercoaster" by The Ohio Players, or any of his other various powers - He is a hell of an insomniac!

The only episode I can really remember is the one where they have like a "pete and pete 500" or something. It was a race they did on their bikes every year around the house I think.

That was a 3rd season show. I think, because it isn't on either of my dvds, and i've seen it on TV... I remember it though! I love the show. My enjoyment is 9(current_age * current_humor). Good results from that.

I was pretty young when it first came on, and I thought it would be stupid for some reason. Brothers who have the same first name? Pssshh!
Then I gave it a chance, and it was actually pretty damn good. One episode I remember that nobody has brought up yet, is when the younger Pete tries to set the world record for amount of days w/ no sleep. Didn't he go 8 days, or 13? I can't recall. . .

The opening music "hey sandy" is what I remember most, the lyrics at the time were really dark, luckily none of the parents or exectives caught on.
The lyrics:
Hey smilin' strange
You're lookin' happily deranged
Could you settle to shoot me?
Or have you picked your target yet?
Hey Sandy
Don't you talk back,
Hey Sandy
Four feet away
End of speech, it's the end of the day
We was only funnin'
But guiltily I thought you had it comin'
Hey Sandy
Don't you talk back,
Hey Sandy
Hey Sandy
Don't you talk back,
Hey Sandy
Hey Sandy
Don't you talk back,
Hey Sandy
The one episode I really remember liking was Adult swim, where young pete rebelled against authority for control of the community pool.

I liked the one where little Pete fakes being sick and learns the wonders of being out of school.

Yup... and I believe she actually had her own place in the credits... right after "Mom."

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

Bump for SUPER AWESOMENESS:
http://www.avclub.com/articles/an-evening-with-the-cast-and-crew-of-the-adventure,68249/
"The A.V. Club tries to be many things to its readers: truth-teller, laugh-giver, information-spreader, and now dream-maker for a wealth of stunted '90s adolescents with a penchant for The Adventures Of Pete And Pete. Friday, Feb. 24, the cast and crew of the Nickelodeon show will reunite at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City. The A.V. Club will host the event, tickets for which go on sale tomorrow. The entire evening will be very pipe, as Artie, The Strongest Man In The World, would say.
The list of cast and crew attendees is still growing, but as of right now, the whole Wrigley clan (Michael Maronna, Danny Tamberelli, Judy Grafe, and Hardy Rawls) are confirmed, as are Ellen (Alison Fanelli) and Artie (Toby Huss). The show's creators Chris Viscardi and Will McRobb will be there, as will writer and director Katherine Dieckmann.
Earlier this year, some of the cast re-united in Los Angeles at Cinefamily, for a sold-out event that streamed live online. That was so much fun that we decided to help make this happen at least one more time–Chicago, watch your calendars–for all longtime blowholes and scab-biters. The A.V. Club's reviews of The Adventures Of Pete And Pete have brought together old cast and crew members, so this just seemed like a natural next step."
Also, Toby Huss who played Artie has confirmed this on his Facebook.
From a separate article:
"There's a reason why a certain generation looks back on "The Adventures of Pete & Pete" with a vast fondness and nostalgia that reaches almost mythic proportions: the show was all about looking back on childhood with a vast fondness and nostalgia in mythic proportions.
For the first time since the show ended in 1996, the cast and creative crew behind the early Nickelodeon cult hit reunited for a panel to look back on their now iconic work. Both Petes -- older TV brother Mike Maronna and the younger, stranger TV brother Danny Tamberelli -- were in attendance on Saturday at LA's Cinefamily, as were creators Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi and a host of other cast members.
As McRobb told the audience, the show's unique perspective is what made it such a unique success. In seeking to make each episode "funny, sad, strange or beautiful," the show connected in a way that most TV shows were not doing at the time.
"I think originally the show began as sixty second commercials for Nickelodeon, and the idea at the time was just to capture what it was to be a kid from a certain perspective," the co-creator said. "If you've seen the sixty, you know this is storytelling, the way kids tell stories, just completely stream of consciousness, works within its own logic and it goes by really fast and you don't even remember half of it because there are just so many details."
In particular, the show hit with the Generation X crowd that was growing up at the time, as well as those a bit older, as it played to their nostalgia.
"It eventually gets slower and eventually gets more mature with time," McRobb continued, "but I think from the very first sixty we did to the very last episode, it was just imbued with this idea that, what's a kid's perspective on growing up, and all the little things that as you get to be adult, they start to fade into the background, they're a big deal to kids. So we just wanted to take those every day events and make them as big as possible."
Perhaps the most mythical element of all was the character of Artie, who was played by Toby Huss. He was discovered during a performance art piece that began at the University of Iowa and then continued on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. McRobb spotted him in NYC, recruited him right out of a bar, and the rest was history.
The one thing Huss didn't take to his "Pete & Pete" version of the character? The sexual innuendo and profanity-laced dialogue.
For more, check out the LA Weekly's recap of the event."

I liked the episode where they have the contest to see who can stay awake the longest and they are slowly driven into madness. It always got dramatic when someone fell asleep, like they died or something.

Some pictures from the recent live reunion show at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC:
Mike and Danny
Hardy Rawls (Dad)
Toby Huss (Artie)
Alison Fanelli (Ellen)
The Blowholes Reunited (Marshall Crenshaw, Danny Tamberelli, Syd Straw)
I'm sure someone will have the whole hour or two hour show up on YouTube in a few days if it's not there already.
