Dude, what the fuck are you using your PS2 for? Cooking? Did ya kick your gaming experience up a notch by not overheating those fats? |
If you're looking to kick it up a notch (BAM) with your Playstation experience, I'd recommend the PS3 Grill Peripheral, stop abusing your PS2.

once again, I've never experienced this so called overheating problem, and I've left my system on for like a week.
we need to look at the facts here, and not just "so and so said this about that."
did hacker's brother have the original slimline with the defective power supply (which sony was offering to replace for free BTW)?
did hacker's grandfather have a launch PS2 or a later remodel? what was the model number?
do you have a 360 or a PC that can play FF X1? cause if you do, you don't need to worry about the HDD to play it on PS2.
Do you plan on pirating games?
If you're buying a freeloader, are you willing to have an external harddrive plugged into it with USB?
can adrenalin remember the "other problems" that his friend had? also, did his friend have the model with the defective power supply?
mega, why did your slim PS2 break? what exactly went wrong? was it defective or just abused?
would you rather have an original NES or a top loader?
do you REALLY need a compartment in your PlayStation to hide marijuana?

I don't abuse video game systems ever. I love video games, there the fourth most important thing in the world for me. The slim PS2 just sort of broke down.
1. Family/Pets
2. Girls
3. Food/Water
4. Video Games

So you'd starve to death if given the chance to either
A. Pet your cat or hug your Mom
B. Hook up with that cute girl who works at Starbucks?
C. Consume sustenance.

Is that a problem? Your mom supported you through all those years, and she gave birth to you. If I hadn't been born, there would be no need for food. Girls just deserve to be at number 2, and if you really need Food/Water you could get some guy to kill her then eat her insides. I'm not saying I would ever do that, but I would do that if we were both stranded on an island and she died.

I cry not for the ugly chick that M3GA hypothetically got, but for humanity.
It was a good run. We've had our ups and downs, and we made it through. It's just so sad to see you die here on the internet in front of me. Farewell old friend.

Most Illogical. Humanity is not lost, one person doesn't destrpy humanity. Only humanity can destroy humanity.

When did I say that? Every person is part of humanity, but that doesn't mean one person can destroy humanity. There is always hope for humanity/people unless there are no homosapiens inhabiting Earth or any other planet.

Okay since my thread has been MASSIVELY DERAILED, let's get back on topic. First, a question:
Why is it said that the PS2, original or slimline, overheats? Is it a defect? A flaw with the design? What makes the unit "overheat" as so many of you have said?

All I know is my original, which I got in... '03 or '04, Has never had any errors except DRA's, but those are from scratched discs.

this has already been answered, mister topic offer bitcher guy.
the early slimlkines had a faulty jiggermabobber or something in the power supply that woudl cause overehating. that's it.
the older model would sometimes overheat because it was basicalyl a gigantic dust magnet.
honestly though, you probably ownt ever encounter any overheating problems.

I'd guess none? Wikipedia doesn't seem to point out any problem about backwards compatibility. Maybe you mean PS3?

I had a fat PS2 that was good for 2 years, until the disc tray came off of its clips. I've had my silver slim ever since (3 years, got it when it was first made available). A couple months ago, I bought a BC PS3 used (for the PS2 upscaling). That damn thing won't stop overheating, so I have to spend $150 to get Sony to repair it. I really wish I hadn't loaned my PS2 to my friend.
I don't know, I'd say either is fine. The slim definitely has more design refinements behind it, and probably won't fail as much. (Don't listen to these guys saying their slims overheat, I've had that thing on overnight to gain shop points in Marvel VS Capcom 2, and it wasn't hot at all the next day. I even played Street Fighter for a few hours after I woke up).

The people that complain about it overheating probably didn't read thier instruction manuals, that say to place the unit somewhere where it can recieve proper ventilation. Such as so many inches from any wall or shelf. These people probably stuff it into their already full entertainment center shelves right up against the back wall and side wall, and have it sitting next to their cablebox or some other device that spews out heat.
