I also played through Mario 3 for the first time in months earlier today. It was great but holy shit the boss battles are even more retardedly easy than I remembered.

Try bouncing on the boss constantly w/o touching the floor or use fireballs it's a bit more challenging (of course I mean the airship/main boss). BoomBooms are fucking easy ass minibosses.

Off topic a bit but play the rom hack Mario Adventure (or whatever it's called) by Dark Daze (once again spelling mihgt be off) The last world has boss battles where you have to fight 3 flying boom booms at the same time while you're little mario. Mario it's more of a bitch than 3 bitchs in a bitch boat.

Dementium was a decent game for a PFS on the DS. Hurts your hand like hell to play though.

Shake it, Quake it, Space Kaboom.

So I ended up getting FFIII earlier this week and I'm liking it a lot so far. The characters and storyline are extremely generic by today's standards, but it's a pretty good old school RPG experience. There is a fair amount of grinding involved if you don't want to get obliterated by bosses, which might turn quite a few people off, but I don't really mind it. It actually gives you more of an opportunity to experiment with the various job classes. I thought the absence of save points and inability to buy fenix downs would be a huge problem, but the dungeons are only about 30-40 minutes long, and most towns have wellsprings that will recover your party for free, should you need it. You also get 100% recovered after every boss battle so you don't have to rely on fenix downs very often at all. I know FFIV will blow this out of the water, but it's still a solid RPG to play in the meantime. Fans of the original NES Final Fantasy and other old school RPGs should pick this one up.

FFIV will be a must for me after this, but I'm leaning towards getting into the Castlevania series next (probably off ebay) and trying out some of the puzzle games mentioned in this thread. Contra 4 also sounds pretty good. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Sidebar: should I invest in a screen protector for my touch screen? I'm scared that the stylus might scratch up the screen over time, and nothing bothers me more than a scratched screen on my handheld gadgets...

Depends on what you're playing, and whether it's a DS Lite or regular. A Lite's screen is much more durable.

I have the lite...

Also, I've never played a real time strategy game before, but I was curious with Tactics A2 coming out. I tried out the original Tactics Advance and damn is that shit addicting. I could see myself wasting a lot of hours on something like that, so yea, I think I'm going to try to pick up A2 today, even though $40 is kind of absurd for a DS game.

I'd just go without the screen, unless you plan on getting Guitar Hero DS. Then it's a tossup.

Yea, I'm going to pass on guitar hero...

Tactics A2 is awesome though, already drained 5 hours out of me yesterday. I might not be needing any new DS games for some time...

I've been reading some about the homebrew scene and that stuff does interest me though. Is there any chance of fuckin up your DS by using one of those slot1 cards?
