I only saw a little of "Stop or my mom will shoot" and it was the part were Stallone quotes the title and it still haunts my dreams. The very title sounds so retarded, Uwe Boll to this day wonders why he didn't think of it first.

I decided that Over the Top is one of those movies you had to watch in the 80s to really appreciate. If you were used to the 80s cheese and Stallone in his prime, it fit in perfectly. So now, it has a high nostalgic value for me.

All of my friends who watched it back then love it. All of my friends who didn't watch it in the 80s didn't like it. For them it had no sentimental value. On top of that, if it came out today, it would fail miserably. So they really had no reason to like it.

I'm not sure when you watched it for the first time. I'm sure there are exceptions to rule. But for the most part, this seems to be how it works.
