What did you use for controls on the emulator? Keyboard? The keyboard is far too responsive to properly simulate the sheer frustration of the original NES experience. Try playing the game with a USB Sidewinder made between 1999 and 2001 for a truer experience.

I used a Gravis Gamepad back then.

And when it comes to Shredder in that game, Don's really the only game in town. Same with the Big Mouser, but those are actually the only two boss fights in the game where you absolutely, positively, undeniably, irrefutably need him.

As for the other boss fights, I use Raph, who's really nowhere near as useless in the game as everyone seems to think, on Bebop and Rocksteady, I have Mike disarm the bombs and obliterate the Technodrome Guardian with Kiai, and I have Leo use Kiai on both of Meca Turtle's forms.

I shit thee not. Just try it my way.

I didn't realize I'd cause such a stir on my first day. I just wanted to get a certain something off my chest. Now can we please get back to the topic at hand?

The "But Where Do The Batteries Go?" arcade level in Timesplitters 2.

My friend showed me how to do it and he did it in like 5 minutes. I tried like 200 times and I NEVER FUCKING DID IT!!! Bleating and Babbling

Maybe it's time to try again....

Basically every game that I play and lose repeatedly, I come back later with a white-hot gaming fury. Rise of Nations and Warhammer Dawn of War are my current bitches. The fact that I can't beat "moderate" or "standard"-level AI enemies makes me so angry that I keep coming back. And I keep getting knocked down. But one day I will come back and I will tear those damn computers a new disk drive.

My brother is kind of like that too (I think I probably get it from him). When we play console games together, like Hulk: Ultimate Destruction or Soul Calibur 2 or Def Jam Fight for NY or whatever it is we just got, we tend to play it exclusively until we beat it. The more we lose a specific mission, the more frustrated we get, and the better we play. We learn from each other's mistakes and we kick more ass because of it. Anger is a resource in the gaming world.

And speaking of TimeSplitters, those arcade challenges in 2 and 3 can just go die. I will never beat those damn bastards. Mad (I once wrote a story and titled it Rice Cracker Rush after the TS2 scenario. I got a message from a reader who said that they didn't take kindly to the title because it reminded them of how they could never beat said scenario.)

Ninja Gaiden. I could never beat the game as a child. A few months ago, I made it really far and the cartridge stopped working. It's coming apart for some reason.

More or less every game I couldn't beat as a kid I can manage pretty well now. But Ninja Gaiden has always been impossible for me. The birds are some of the most annoying video game enemies ever, and I can never, EVER manage to get past the last boss, specifically the 2nd fight where the Jaquio (sp?) flys around throwing fire balls at you. I can't even get his health halfway down... and starting all the way back at the pyramid place after dying? It's pure torture.

UN Squadron on the SNES is pretty tough, that's another I just can't manage. The boss in the 2nd last level is terribly frustrating, since you MUST have a ship or sub-weapons that shoot upward, otherwise there's no way of beating it. The last boss fight is crazy difficult as well.

I'm pretty sure no one has finished Battletoads or Double Dragon 3 either...

My brother's beaten Battletoads. I wasn't around for it, but he insists that it was one of the hardest experiences of his life.

I have that game for Game Gear, and that kicked my ass as much as Dynamite Headdy did.

I beat 7th saga. I had rented the thing, and the end bill was enormous.

Lux and Esuna (robot and elf) were my characters of choice. Also, do not fight the priest. Even normally he'll beat the shit out of you, but when he learns elixer you cannot kill him.

That was certainly the best combination to beat the game with, and the one I used as well. I always wanted to use the demon Lejes, but he always got killed incredibly quickly.

I guess I should add Ikari Warriors 1 & 2, although I didn't know there was a simple code to continue after death until very, very recently.

ones I'm currently trying to destroy

Castlevania II (argh! Mad)

Mechwarrior 3050 SNES ( unplayable crap? Confused )

Skate or Die 1 and 2 (broken controls?)

Contra 3 Alien Wars (trying with no code)

Bionic Commando (making good head way here actually)

most of the mega mans with varying degrees of success. Neutral

Could you actually BEAT Skate or Die 1? It's been years since I've played it, bu as I recall it was just a bunch of short minigames, wasn't it?

"Wolfman's got nards!"

You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance!

Mega Man 1 for Game Boy was pretty hard back in the day. Crazy jumps and timing, plus this one boss would always kick my ass.

Other than that, I still want to someday beat Sonic Spinball, Ninja Gaiden, Battletoads (which will never happen). Yeah.

i think the nes version of tournament fighters is the only street fighter type game on the nes.

i beat the genesis version tons of times, but it kind of sucked. casey jones was cool though. his bombs were cheap.

i liked the snes one, but it also had its problems. leo and cyber shredder were my favorites. i think i beat that one too.

read this, it's hilarious:

Yeah, I'd have to agree. I haven't finished the original Megaman (mainly because of the things in the air you can stand on that shoot on Ice Man's stage, and Elec Man is damn hard for me to beat.

10 years later, same shit.

I beat all three ninja gaiden games, but not until years later. sonic spinball is jsut too frustrating to enjoy. there was a time when sonic spinballa nd valis were the o nly two genesis games that I owned, so I made it my mission to beat it, and managed to make it to the last level before giving up out of frustration.

How do you not beat Super Mario Bros? That was the first game I ever beat.

If you guys think the robot masters themselves are hard, wait until you face them all a second time, and face Dr. Wily.

I'd never beat the original Zelda as a kid, but I finished the first quest. The second one is still killing me.

I first beat SMB on the Gameboy in one sitting. Then I beat the star levels when the goombas are replaced with Buzzy Beetles.
