Towards the end of his 2nd term there were time he didn't know where he was. Not saying he wasn't a charismatic guy and definitely a leader, but you could tell by the second term that his goose was cooked.
I know that Huckabee and Romney are not the guys to lead this country. I won't vote for a Creationist (see: ignorant moron) and Romney is the sleazy used car salesman of the GOP.

Yeah, if McCain wins, he should seriously consider not running for re-election because of his age. That means he should pick somone for his VP candidate that can be a good successor in four years.

McCain/Giuliani '08?
If only.

How so? (Given that I know a McCain/Giuliani ticket will never happen)

The man who only got elected because his best friend wrote a book about him. Granted, his friend was Hawthorne, but still...
Giuliani sucks. His only issue is security after 9/11, and that's only so he can reiterate that he was mayor of NYC during 9/11. He's got absolutely no other redeeming traits worth talking about.

While I still support Rudy, you have a point there Spanky. He's becoming a broken record.
Fred Thompson seemed to resurrect himself in the debate last night.
McCain displayed some foreign policy expertise, but why he had to stress his belief in global warming or that we have to deal with illegal immigrants compassionately, I do not know. Just punish businesses so that they'll stop hiring them, then they'll go back to Mexico on their own. Problem solved. Enforcement of the laws is already begining to get them to migrate back there, or to Canada.
I wish Fox News stuck to their guns and refused to let Ron Paul participate. He was just a distraction. "I don't understand the fuss about the Iranian speedboats, they aren't a threat to our warships" What if they were loaded with explosives, like what happened to the U.S.S. Cole? What a dipshit. The look on McCain's face when Ron said that was priceless.

That's exactly what I thought when he essentially said that speedboats are harmless. I was hoping McCain would jump on him for that.

One of my friends keeps insisting that Giuliani is corrupt as hell and has taken bribes from everyone under the sun. I'm too lazy to look whether it's true or not.

Not to mention he survived an assassination attempt, which gives him additional kick-ass factor.

And after said assassination attempt, he deliver two of his most famous quotes:
"I hope you're all Republicans" - to his doctors
"Honey, I forget to duck." - to Nancy. This was originally said by Jack Dempsey when he lost his heavyweight title to Gene Tunney.

He's kinda super liberal. I kinda like him, but America is for the most part unsuprisingly primarily moderate.
Also, at 5' 6", hes a leprecaun. Constrast with his six foot wife, and you've got a napoleon complex that you definitely don't want in the white house.

Ugh I just wish people would think more forward than just caring about their cash and taxes.

The Napoleon complex is actually a phony idea because Napoleon was average height for people of his time.

The Napoleon Complex may be poorly named, but it is very much a real thing.

I think the appeal of Republicans ("conservatives" if you like) vs. Democrats ("liberals" I suppose) is the fact that the Democrats are generally seen as weaker on national defense than Republicans. Whether or not that is actually borne out in the numbers, I have no idea- but I know of many people that think the Republicans have a stronger posture on terrorism and national security. A lot of their appeal probably comes from that, arguably more than $300 tax cuts.

Another part of it comes from the fact that Democrats are always trying to enact social programs. Most people who vote have, at the very least, mediocre jobs that pay the bills. I think a lot of people are resentful of welfare programs and healthcare programs that will give poor people some sort of equity in their lives. It's human nature to need see people who are worse off than you to make you feel better about yourself. Also, giving to charity makes people feel good too. But when the government starts steps in and strong arms money out of your paycheck and gives it to some worthless crackhead who then uses it to buy a $300 cellphone, people don't like that so much. The truth is, no one really wants the pinkish social equity that the Democrats always try to impose. People don't just want to be better off than they currently are; they want to be better off than someeone else.

I waffle between liberalism and libertarianism. Libertarianism is when I begin to suffer under the delusion that the wealthy, given the opportunity, would follow under the example set by Andrew Carnegie and invest their wealth in their fellow countrymen.
Unfortunately, our wealthy act exactly how we expect them to, spending time indulging in trifles and building personal monarchies that would make the very classist British blush.
Syd, I think your half correct. People want to see people worse off than them. But more importantly, they want to be at the top. That is, they want to see everyone poorer than them. They want to be indulgent rich. Rappers in music video, Paris Hilton, people constantly flashed across the media super-rich.
Problem is that itll never happen. Weaths become the primary method of making wealth. Its concentrating right at the top, and the average person has no chance of ever seeing it. Before long, America will look like Mexico, with its sprawling estates surrounded by iron fences, armed guards, and beyond that, the squalor you normally think of when you think Mexico.

There are wealthy people who give back.
Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, two of the richest men in the world, have given up the majority of their personal fortunes to charitable organizations founded in their names. Meanwhile Paris Hilton's grandfather, embarassed by the behavior of his heirs, recently announced plans to do the exact same thing.
And you don't need to be rich to give money. Every little bit helps and it makes you feel good. A few bucks out of my paycheck each week are automatically given to United Way and I always give something to Shriners and the Salvation Army when I see them soliciting.
As far as the rich go, I think people who earned their money tend to be more likely to give back than people who didn't. Businessmen, lawyers, doctors and other professionsals are generally pretty good about given money back to society. Sport stars, music stars, movie stars, and celebutantes are not.

That's why choice is at the crux of the matter. I'd rather write a check annually to charities of my interest such as The National Wildlife Fund or Catholic Charities USA instead of giving to the government through taxes and then have them probably either waste it, pocket it, or use to fund programs that are either inefficient or not the cause of my choice.
