I think all direct to video animated disney sequels should be diswqualified, on the grounds that they're all awful and we don't ned to mention it.

all of the resident evil movies were crap, so they're disqualified too.

I like to not count the schumacher batman flicks as being in the same boat as the burton ones, so quadrawhatever is a bad term to use there. I wouldn't call batman begins a restart. I'd look at it more as the two burton flicks being one interpretation, the scublahblah ones as another, and begins/dark knight as a new interpretation.

The land before time has 1 awesome movie original and 12 craptastic direct to video sequels with . . . i'm not believing this, another one TBA this year:

make it stop! make it stop!

I've seen II, III and IV. The drop of quality is staggering between the original and II. And the drop continues to go down as the series continues. By IV i couldn't take it and vowed never to watch any further sequels.

But what pisses me off the most, is the fact that the original was awesome because it was different from any other animated movie, like a disney movie, such as THERE WAS NO FREAKING SINGING EVER FIVE MINUTES. I enjoyed the original land before time and even balto because they didn't have any music scenes, which seems to be a standard with animated movies in the hey day. Now, littlefoot and company will spontaneously break out into song. Man, i wish Bluth went with that rumored ending where the Greatvalley was the after life and all the dinosaurs died.

The world would not have to suffer then. Rolling Eyes

Hey im just waiting for Land Before Time XXXXVI: Boneyard Discovery and Land Before Time XXXXVII: The Great Museum Adventure. Watch as Littlefoot Sarah and the gang have their bones discovered and shipped to a history museum, only for it to have the bones of some new enemy/friend. Watch as the hijinks ensue.

Before I post another series, I would like to suggest that this topic be renamed "Film series where the first film was the only good one" or something of the like.

My series: Casper.

The first film was one I really liked when I was younger. Sure there was some very stupid shit in it (i.e. The Ghostbusters not being able to defeat the three ghosts despite them going through much worse shit), but it had ERIC FUCKING IDLE in it.

I liked it so much, I saw the sequel "Casper: A Spirited Beginning". It was full of tween bullshit. The protagonist of the film was this whiny little shithead who likes aliens. And never have I seen a cast of has-beens in my life. Here are some of the (well-known) cast:

Steve Guttenberg (The guy in the Police Academy films (thats another thing I should mention, every police academy film after the first was terrible))

The hot mom from Full House

Bull from Night Court

Michael McKean

The 'real' voice of Darth Vader

Sherman Helmsley

Ben Stein

and Pauly Shore I guess...

The soundtrack is really shitty too.

This whole thread is wrong for too many reasons to post. Syd, you were wise to create this atrocity in my absence.

it was one of my favortie flicks as a kid. that and brave little toaster.

looking back, it's weird that my two favorite cartoons were super depressing tales taht were turned into disney songfests in their sequels.

Okay here's a movie that's had several crappy sequels: Tremors. I can't believe that there are four movies. I thought the first one was pretty good. Then while I was channel surfing back in the day Tremors II was on TBS or something and I tried to watch it. I thought that it was crap. Oh, not to mention the series that I've never seen and therefore will not comment. Then to my surprise, while I was at the video store, I saw Tremors IV. I didn't even know there was a Tremors III! Although I haven't seen the third or fourth movie, I couldn't imagine them being as good as the first. Has anyone even seen the third and fourth tremors movies? If so, you need to let me know if they're worth seeing. If they are, you've proved me wrong. If not, tremors is my choice for a movie where the First movie was the best out of all of its sequels.

I remember that the sequence in The Brave Little Toaster where the kid turns into some kind of monster thing or whatever always scared the hell out of me. Good movie, though.

I never saw brave little toaster, but I liked the first Land before Time. Maybe because it realized that children are not retarded so you can have things in the movie that might be sad or violent. Also, they like dinosaurs.

Not my favorite though, and I don't recall any cartoon movie I really liked. I distictly remember getting Jurassic Park as soon as it came out, when I was about 7 or 8. If I had to pick a favorite of my childhood, that would be it. And as previously mentioned, had incredibly shitty sequels.

I mean, Lost World has the heroes do everything they possibly can to damage property, endager lives, and piss off some very angry T-Rexes. Had they not, we would have a perfectly safe and very enjoyable Dinosaur Theme Park. Everything bad that happens in that movie comes about because of their actions. Plus, keep in mind that this is the good movie of the two.

Also, Michael Crichton is a hack. Here, let me sum up about 90% of his collective work for you: A big business uses SCIENCE to do evil stuff, bad shit goes down, and some douche is possesed by the author and spouts some tangential smurt bullshit that doesn't have very much to do with anything. Imagine if Ayn Rand was a liberal with a taste for pulp.

As a fan of tremors, i enjoyed I and II. I have seen III and IV, they are okay and any tremors fan can get into them however, there are two things wrong with III and IV:

1) Direct to video
2) Burt is always void of his arsenal for bullshit reasons. It was funny in II ("I am completely out of ammo") but having to make his own gun in III and not even being Burt (his gun-shy grandfather i think) in IV are bullshit. It kind of adds to the suspense but you want Burt to be Burt and go Govinator on the Graboid's asses.

I haven't seen the series but I might some day just to see what it is about.

I do recommend III and IV for mindless entertainment but you are right in that they are no where near as good as the first one.
