Someone said he looks more like a Romulan than a Vulcan. I concur.

Apparently, old Spock will go back in time to warn younger Spock about a plot to assassinate Kirk. There's a few people calling it a Terminator ripoff, but since Star Trek and time travel go hand-in-hand, I'm forgiving it. Plus, Leonard Nimoy!

Hey, I'm all for anything that involves the Guardian of Forever.
Although, I hope this doesn't result in a reboot, as rumored. A recasting I don't mind for Trek, but a reimagining - no.

I'm pretty sure that's Kirk he's choking, not a Romulan. He wears the same black clothes he does in the other pictures and doesn't have pointy ears.

Wow, those stills got me much more interested in this movie. Plus they have Harold (John Cho) playing Zulu it looks like.

Yeah I read about Spock in Entertainment Weekly when they did a cover of this. Apparently this is the time when Spock is having emotional problems and isn't dependent on drugs which he lovingly refers to as "logic".

I have a bad feeling about this . . . i know i'm going to call Spock "Sylar" throughout the movie.

Wow, they are really escaping from the mold on this one.
Either it will draw in a lot of new fans, alienate old fans, or both.
I don't know how well it will be received from the hardcore Trek community.
Though, I'll see it.

I saw the preview last night. It looks pretty hardcore, and doesnt feel like the "that technology looks too new for it to be Enterprise" feeling I had when I watched that. I think that "Enterprise" did the most damage to the franchise and now after a break, we can get it back into the fold if this movie catches on.

The thing that amazes me the most is that they really seem to have gone over every little detail and given it a distinctly new look while still keeping it somewhat familiar. The sequence at 1:00, which I assume is how the beaming process looks like in the movie is a good example. Overall the whole production design has a distinct Apple feel to it, which is not surprising considering that Abrams is a big fan of Apple's design. I just hope that's not the only thing they paid attention to. If the characters get buried under the slick production design and the admittedly impressive special effects, the movie might fail; and I want nothing more than for it to be a success, so that Star Trek can hopefully make a return to the small screen.
Finally one thing that really bugs me about the trailer is the opening sequence with the car. I hope they have a good explanation for that. This is supposed to be 200 years in the future, so the car must be an antique by then. Do we really need that nod to the 20th century in every incarnation of Star Trek?

I hope it's not going to be one of those deals were the trailer is more awesome then the movie. That has been happening to me a lot lately.

Spock is obviously going to make the film.
I never lost faith in this project, but we all know I'm a Trekkie for life and a bigger J.J. fan.

I read a really interesting interpretation of the opening sequence today:
| Slashfilm wrote: |
Much has been made of the opening sequence of the new movie trailer. A young kid jumps out of a moving car as it zooms off the edge of a cliff. The reveal is that the kid is the future Captain of the USS Enterprise, James T Kirk. The sequence is constructed to get a specific reaction: “This doesn’t look like any Star Trek movie I’ve ever seen before.” But I think many people are missing the possible metaphor. Kirk could have been driving a car from any decade in history — the 2000’s, the 1990’s, the 1980’s, or the 1970’s, but for one reason or another, Abrams chose a 1960s Corvette.
Could it be that the corvette represents something more than just a fast car? Is it just a coincidence that the car was released during the same decade that the original Star Trek television series premiered? I believe that by throwing the 1960’s era car off a cliff, Abrams was making a statement - “this is not your father’s Star Trek movie - we’re throwing all that stuff away, off a cliff no less. This is the new Star Trek.” |
