From F@NBOY$ creator Scott:

"A friend of mine buys people's dead X360's just to repair this problem and resells them. What's the problem in them? Well MS decided to use really cheap thermal paste (A goo that goes between the CPU and the CPU COOLER) that doesn't dissipate heat too well and ends up solidifying and going to waste. And secondly, they CPU's fan runs only at a fraction of the speed it should be running at. Easy things to fix, just poor design, like usual."

I'm suppose to get the thing back Monday. It's been like nearly 3 weeks, pretty sucky, but not like I had any new or even old games to play summer. I've been giving my NES a workout!

I don't get why they had to use the cheap thermal paste. A perfectly acceptable paste, Arctic Silver, goes for $5.99 at NewEgg. Microsoft can't be that cheap, can they?

Yes they can. Very easily, in fact.

Just like with the original Xbox, when people realized that Microsoft was using ATA33 IDE ribbons in the consoles, when the DVD-ROM and hard drive were ATA100 compatible parts. And, simply by replacing the original ribbon with a ATA100/133 ribbon (Which most computer users have spares of because you get two of them every time you buy a new Motherboard.) the games would load up to 50% faster.

I did that with my old Xbox, it was sweet. I think a big reason 360 is having probs is the lead free-stuff rule.
