I just feel sorry for everyone who's trying to make the film more important than what it is. I might just be ignorant, but I don't think it warrants the multiple articles in magazines and newspapers it's been getting. It's a good movie, not Passion of the Christ.

When I went to see it again, there was this couple that showed up and apparently went into the wrong room (they wanted to see 23). They were about 8 steps up along the walkway when this guy a step above them hears (along with everyone else) "Awww man, this isn't the movie." To which he retorts "This. Is. Sparta!" And kicks the guy down hard enough that he bowls over all 8 steps. One of the theater's rent-a-cops showed up and took the guy outside.

300 was aweseome, and leonidas was a bad ass, especailly since it was partially based off reality, a lot things were accurate... except for maybe the guy with more haunches than quasimodo, the huanch back of notre dame...

And compared to the other movie I saw, 23, 300 was way better, in fact it was 23 times better... or to be more exact it 300 is 13.047 times better than 23.

----------

23 was not worth the time it took to watch it...

I liked the movie quite a bit (I guess that's the equivalent of a 8.5/10 for most people), aside from a lot of the dialog. I felt that 90% of the dialog that wasn't screaming or a sarcastic one-liner was lacking. Everything else was great.

*Spoilers...sort of.*
I don't know why, but whenever I pick a character that I like in a movie they die. Unless, of course, everyone else in the movie dies. The same thing happened in 300, and seems to happen in every horror movie that I watch.

just so we're clear you don't consider 300 horror do you? I kind of got that impression from you post but i 'm pretty sure it was unintentional...

As for the spoielr anyone who knows some history will know the basic outline and flow of the film...

And I agree plot was lacking, but that's kind of why i said it's a good movie just to sit back and watch without thinking at all.. and it has a good idea behind it as well, though that whole offer thing and how it turned out was kind of ridiculous, but i guess.. well i'll be happy to dicuss it once more people have had a chacne to see it...

actually maybe i can use spoiler tags:
I thought it was ridicously for him to turn down that offer at the end, if nothing else i would of accepted it, buy myself some time.. and go back to get the rest of the army... Also I really didn't want to see leonidus die.. just i dont' know i guess that's not the spartan way. With your shield or on it, as the spartans say.
Edit: coudnl't get the spoiler tags to work, so just turned font black, which now that i think on it maybe all spoiler tags really do anyway is match background color, but maybe not.. But i dont't hink that's how spoiler tags work i think it actaulyl puts a layer of black ness with the the text.. that way it'll work on any back ground even a multi-colored one, which luckilky, this ,as most forums are, are not multi-colored.

You do know that the movie is based off of a story where EVERYONE dies, right? It's not really a spoiler if that info is common knowledge.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure why I threw a spoiler thing on there.

Whichever. I'm tired, and extremely disappointed with the fact that I just wasted $20 on SvC Chaos.

The game? It would have been okay if I wouldn't have played the Capcom vs. SNK games made by Capcom first. I didn't think it was worth $20, no. But it does have the Red Arremer from Ghosts 'n Goblins in it, so that's a plus.

Back to the movie, I don't really see why everyone is comparing it to the Iraq war, but at least it was amusing when it was done in "The Colbert Report". Then again, I'm not one to think about things like that when I'm watching movies. A movie is a movie to me, and not much more.

i saw 300 for my birthday and it was awesome. although the thing with his wife was pretty boring (except for the part where she kills that jerk dude and is all "you will not enjoy this" etc etc) one thing i thought was funny is that the movie is very similar to a game i own, Spartan: Total Warrior. it had the slow-mo kills and everything. the only thing i didnt like is, apparently spartans think a cape, helemt, and something covering their fun parts is enought to go into battle with. come on, cant you at least have a breastplate or something?

Damn it, am I the only male who thought the wife subplot was the only thing keeping the movie from being mind numbingly violent with three fights too many?

well...yeah, i guess it would've been basically a killfest without that. i dunno, it was still kinda lacking.

this makes no sense:
Quote:
First draft for 300 sequel is ready

Small, sandaled steps are being taken toward a "300" sequel.

Frank Miller recently completed a draft of the graphic novel that follows up his original tale, a book that would serve as the basis for a new Warner Bros.-Legendary Pictures project.

While Miller is still tweaking his version, the ball will soon rest in the court of studio, financing entity and producers (likely to include Gianni Nunnari's Hollywood Gang, Mark Canton' Atmosphere and Zack Snyder's Cruel & Unusual banners) to determine how easily, if at all, they can translate the story to the big screen.

http://www.riskybusinessblog.com/2009/07/300-sequel-frank-miller.html

first off, how would a sequel work? what would it be called? 300 2? 300 thousand? 300, the revenge?

Wow, yea, this is history, how can there be a sequel?

Oh well, like I said in the "Most High Profile Movie You Have Never Seen" thread, I have still never seen 300.

It's funny how Frank Miller has become sort of the mirror image of Alan Moore in terms of his relation to the movie industry. While Moore despises Hollywood and has nothing but contempt for adaptations of his works, even if one actually turns out to be good, Miller has embraced Hollywood to the point where he now writes pointless comic book sequels for studios to adapt, not to mention his own disastrous stint in the directorial chair with The Spirit.

There's a healthy middle ground in this, but neither Miller nor Moore seem like likely candidates for finding it.

So true, always love your posts Tyop, very thought out.

Although, Alan Moore needs to lighten up a little bit IMO.

the adaptation for Sin City wasnt bad imo. even though he co-directed, i still have to say it was very faithful towards the comic book.
