Is there something special about the PC version?

You need 1GB of RAM to run it.

That seems pretty special, if not very weird :S

That doesn't mean it will use 1GB of RAM, My guess is that it will use between 500-700MB like most well textured 3D games now. At the same time, it keeps an internet connection for cloud access, and probably has a web store or something like that, tack on another 100MB for Webkit, or alternatively it will ship via Steam or something like that. Finish it off with the OS requirements, shitty video cards that share memory, or any number of other factors and you end up with a game that shouldn't be played with less than 1GB of RAM on the system.

Certainly on XP the overhead is less, but in 2012, the bottom of the barrel system comes with 4GB of RAM and average new computers have 8-16. Most computers have had 1GB for the last 8 years or so. This is totally acceptable.

Edit:

Steam's Hardware survey regarding RAM:

~99% has 1GB or more
~93% has 2GB or more
~70% has 3GB or more
~50% has 4GB or more
~30% has 5GB or more

I wasn't actually aware that they were updating textures. If that was the case then i wouldn't have posted.

All i read in this thread was they were releasing the same game onto steam. I'm not saying it's unacceptable. I was saying it was weird (still under the premise that that game wouldn't be getting any technical updates) considering the PS1 had 2mb ram and 1mb vram. I know you can't directly compare consoles versus computers like this but fuck the first 1GB ram computer didn't come out until quite a few years later.

Also the fact http://www.allgame.com/game.php?id=9411&tab=sysreqs that the original required 32MB for PC.

However i am justifying a point which doesn't seem to be the case. If it's being graphically updated, it makes perfect sense.

I am making some basic assumptions at this point, but in order for this thing to work as a modern release, even as a port, it would need to support wide screen resolutions. At the point where that happens almost all of the 3D engine will be tweaked. The old game was significantly reduced in its look and feel based purely on the hardware it had to work with. The original resolution of the game was 640x480 (~307K pixels), now 1080p is at 1920x1080 (~2074K pixels, a 675% increase).

Also, now they can begin to turn on some basic DX9 features that weren't available, yet don't require much reprogramming. Expect anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering to be working hard.

I like how they flat-out lied about it not coming. That's the best part.
