Well, if you guys want a status report, it's been getting better. I've been taking antibiotics, since it is an open fracture, but I had to go to another doctor and get a new antibiotic, since the previous ones made me vomit.

I've also tried the Epsom salts today. They stung a little bit, but weren't as bad as I thought.

Yeah they are good for keeping infection out of an open wound, always good to have some around the house.

Agreed! They'll also help my foot heal up.

I had the same thing happen to my toe once: I was changing barbells on a weight lifting bar, and one of them slipped out of my hands and fell on my toe. At first, I didn't notice anything because I didn't feel any pain, but then I saw that my toe got smushed enough to bleed. No broken bones, just blood, and I didn't feel the need to go to the hospital. The toenail fell off a couple of days later. Healed just fine.

Well, I'm glad you're doing just fine. I still got a minor fracture, but it's probably not much worse than yours. Very Happy

When I was 10 I decided it would be a good idea to ride my 5 year old sisters bike... Then to do a wheelie on said bike. I broke my left arm in 2 places and dislocated it, and I needed to have 3 4-inch long pins stuck through my elbow to keep it in place. It wasn't nice. I had to sleep on my back so often I was up wayyyy late at night. Of course it happened about two weeks before my birthday, too. It's all better though, and actually just as strong as my right arm.

About seven years ago I was putting something away in my dad's garage/shop and I tripped over an extension cord ( one I made a mental note to avoid one minute earlier Rolling Eyes ) fell forward onto my chest and pretty much "kicked" the solid concrete floor. That hurt like hell. I don't know what I did to my big toe but it snaps when I bend it now. Laughing The worst part was that I had just taken off my steel-toed boots before walking out of the house.
No... just no.

I had a bad ingrown toenail that I had a doctor cut out once. Not worth it. I got one again as soon as it grew back. Evil Now I just keep the sides of my nails trimmed away from the edge. A straight-edged nail clipper, a pair of tweezers and a tolerance of some pain will save a lot of hassle.

When I was like 6 I was playing on the playground at school when another kid fell feet first onto my shoulders. One of my collarbones snapped but my teacher didn't believe I was really hurt, so I had to wait until after school to go to the hospital. Even then I had to wait like 3 hours to see the doctor. I broke my collarbone at 10:30 am and saw a doctor at 7:30. Its still much weaker than it should be.

Not toe related but still it sucked.

A few years ago I had a boat slam on my thumb. There was heavy waves and the boat slammed onto my thumb as it was coming down, right onto a concrete and steel bulkhead. As soon as the boat went back up I pulled my thumb out and watched as it swelled up and turned a terrible blue/purple color. It didn't hurt at all, probably because my thumb got slammed so hard it killed all the nerves in the end of it. I still can't feel much in that thumb.

Oh dear... I can't imagine how bad that'd feel if it didn't kill the nerves.

The worst part (that I forgot to mention) was that I didn't go to a doctor or hospital and I eventually had to relieve the pressure myself by heating up a pin and poking it through my thumbnail. Then it got infected and I finally went to the hospital and got antibiotics and got it all checked out. The blood and pus that came out was pretty gnarly, but not as bad as when I had jungle rot.

I thought I had a high level of pain tolerance... But I can't even stick a needle through my own thumbnail. It was bad enough when I was cutting off some dead skin on my fingernail and took off a good chunk of my fingernail leaving it pretty much exposed in the middle. Hitting the exposed flesh /sucked/

Yeah, when I had the jungle rot I mentioned in my previous post I had to scrape the ulna (bone) in my arm. That was extremely painful.

Good lord... I'd say give me numbing fluid so I can't feel a thing then put me into a coma for a few days so I would wake up with less pain.

Yeah, epson salts never hurt as much as you'd think they would. It's just salty water.

Yeah salty water + open wound really doesn't sound pleasant.

They aren't bad actually. There's a little stinging at first but the Epsom salt seems to be soothing somehow and it goes away pretty quickly in my experience.

Epsom salts are also awesome for sore/bruised muscles.

Yeah my dad uses them all the time and I used to use them when I was in dance. You just get a bag and pour them in as you draw the bath. Easy and feels great.

Well, I have an update, guys.

For the past week since the incident, I had to wear a lousy post-op shoe that slowly made my foot uncomfortable and gave me a blister at the end of my foot. After going to the doctor, I'm finally weening myself of it, and let me tell you, it feels great.
