I'm a bit late to this conversation but whatever. I only have experience with BlazBlue Continuum Shift in fighting games, which I'm sure is pretty far out of the mainstream. Basically, I want to ask: is there a game I should play to start getting familiar with fighting games in general?

Persona 4 Arena is actually a good place to start. It has a lot of the technical elements of more complex fighting games, but they specifically made it more accessible to newer players by adding easy combos.

Outside of that, maybe Capcom vs. Tatsunoko, or any of the other 2 on 2 Capcom vs. games.

After watching all the movelist videos from Atlus' youtube, I have to say that I'd probably like Akihiko, but I'm usually pretty bad at memorizing situational movesets where A leads into B, C, or D and E leads into F, G, and H. It's why I avoided using Karas in TvC.

My favorite characters right now are Teddie, Yukiko, and Elizabeth. I still need to try Chie and Yosuke though.
