because that would have nothing to do with what we were talking about. |
It has everything to do with what we're all talking.

It's amazing that the author of that review has enough Japanese videogame knowledge to make a "beatmania" reference, but somehow does NOT understand that one of the minigame he's describing is based upon Dance Dance Revolution moreso than beatmania. |
Of course, beatmania has this kind of controller, and not 4 buttons.

Well, the even bigger hint would be the four arrows pointed in each of the four main cardinal directions on that BBS screenshot. Two IIDX controllers, Bomberman? Do you play 14key?

There is, but it takes a crazy amount of time and practice to get even "good" at the game, so finding another person near you (if you don't live in Japan) willing to give the game an honest shot, is very difficult. Those controllers cost around $100 a pop to import too. To get a good return on that investment, I'm guessing Bomberman plays Double.

beatmania was released in America in March last year.
And I have 2 beatmania IIDX +1 US beatmania controller too, but that screenshot is from Wikipedia.
I play single, except when my sister wants to play too

Indeed, I have beatmania US, though I was invested in the IIDX series before that. Even though beatmania US is a really lackluster first offering for the North American market, it's nice to have a cheap(er) source of extra controllers. My US controller is still in the box since my JPN one still works quite well.

You should really consider picking up 9th style too, or even 7th or 8th. There are lots of great songs on all three of those styles.

Heh, perhaps...though my fascination with Japanese videogames pretty much begins and ends with the rhythm/music game genre.

Konami has gone above and beyond the call of duty this time. beatmaniaIIDX GOLD has a remix of Ghostbusters on it. Yes, that's the Ray Parker Jr. song of 1984 from the movie of the same name. This "disco" remix has been done by DJ Yoshitaka. Check it out here for some awesome 80's nostalgia.

....!!!!
Konami wins on every single level.
I can't wait til this gets on PS2.
Oh, Jake, I saw the X-Play review that shot down the US version of beatmania when Morgan called it a "lame Guitar Hero ripoff" and was very misinformed about beatmania and it's worldwide popularity. beatmania came out in 1997, almost a decade before Guitar Hero, and Harmonix copied off of another BEMANI game, Guitar Freaks, which came out in 1999, which they basically ripped off. Say what you want about it, but BM is the great granddaddy of music rhythm games, and deserves it's merit. What do you think about this?
My last word... Let me quote Jeebus:

So you were actually off by at least 400%, which isn't very close at all. |

The X-Play fiasco just goes to prove how incompetent those guys are. Seriously, they could have just Googled "beatmania" and had their history on the franchise straight in about five minutes. Regardless, beatmaniaIIDX is lots of fun, but I can't commit enough time to it to play at the highest levels. I figure I'm getting my money's worth, though, if I can clear most songs on at least Light7/Normal. In case you were interested, I can handle most note charts rated 7 out of 12 and below.

Ugh. I hate X-Play. It's the only gaming show that goes out of its way to insult their target demographic. Repeatedly. In every episode.
