It will be fun to play mario with a completely goal than normal. Also I agree with you about gradius. I have never really played it before and it is just kicking my ass.

i was playing gradius III earlier on my snes. fuck that game. the bosses are easy, its the bubble level that gets me.

Anything obviously point farming.

I.E. instead of the stairs, bouncing the turtle off of a tunnel, wall, etc. would be considered a similar trick.

Also, farming enemies in ducktales by repeatedly killing the same enemies over and over, will also result in a DQ of your run. I understand you MAY have to revisit a spot to get an item or something needed, but excessively doing this for the purpose of raising your score will not be allowed. So please, keep this to a minimum.

i will edit my original post to reitterate this once I get done eating.

I never played Gradius before either. But this game looks like a memorization crapfest up to now.
Especially the bosses, they're almost impossible the first time but as soon as you figure them out they become retardedly easy and boring as fuck.

What about something that's not a glitch or trick? Say, for example, that you keep killing the Spinies that Lakitu drops, the Bullet Bills from a cannon, or anything else that comes from some sort of enemy generator? That's totally legit, it's not killing the same enemy because they're not respawns, and you still have to fight against the timer.

Do you still continue to get points when you jump on the shell, or is it just 1-ups? If you don't get any points I would say its legit, pplus I can never do it so I really don't care.

EDIT: I also plan on moving a majority of the first post to a wiki page, that way the wall of text isnt so huge.

Great question syd,

The only two generators I can think of currently are lakitu and bullet bill. I will allow these for the following reasons:

1 - Lakitu drops the spinies relatively slow. And the cant be killed by just jumping on them. so I will allow this based on the fact that you cant easily gain a combo from repeatedly killing these.

2 - Bullet bills are generated even slower than the spinies from the cannons, and on the levels where they randomly shoot across they are sparse enough that gaining a combo from either of these situations takes more skill than just hopping on a turtle and setting the controller down. The main reason I disallowed the turtle trick is because you dont actually have to be playing the game to let the points come up. It's not really fun if everyone just hops on a turtle and runs up their points, nor is it a challenge.

Now on the other hand, after what douche said, IF you stop gaining points once the combo turns to 1-up's I may consider allowing the turtle trick because it adds more skill to it. you would have to be able to time the jump EVERY time you wanted to do it to get maximum points, not just once.

Sign me up for Super Adventure Island, Paperboy, and Super Mario Bros. 3.

What do you mean in Super Castlevania IV when you say 3 lives to start (self-explanatory), and 5 maximum?

My understanding is play until you die or die five times.

Well it was supposed to mean that you started with 3 lives, and if you gained 2 more in your run you could have a maximum of 5.

BUT, I checked SCV4 and you start with 4 lives, so im just going to restrict it to 4 lives. after your fourth death or at the end of the game your run is over.

does that answer your question?

also, WOO sticky status!

Makes sense to me.

Anyways, like I said, sign me up for Super Adventure Island, Paperboy, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Castlevania IV.

Why don't you just make a list of people participating and score them on what they turn in, instead of keeping a list of who is participating in what.

hmmm. suprisingly I never thoght about that :-\

/me fails.

im hoping all of the kinks are worked out of my little system by round 2 lol. round 2 will definitely have less events. im thinking 2. in all honesty since this isnt a tournament i don't really need a sign-up stage, its more or less just to help me judge peoples interests and the amount of expected participation. Which is helpful because i know now that if everyone submits a video i have roughly 60-100 videos to watch lol.

Yeah, part of the reason I enjoy having the robot as my partner on the challenges, having the workload divided is very nice.

Ok I am gonna have to drop out of both mario games, I am so terrible at gradius that I fear it will take me all this time to get good enough to even beat the game. I am already content with my skill level at mario I would rather focus on getting good at a game that I have never really played before.
