This looks like total shit.

To be honest when i first started watching it i thought it was one of those fake indie movie trailers people make.

God, the memories. We used to put Slayer cassettes in mine when I got a little older and scared the garbage out of my cousin. Good times.

My buddy greeneyedzeke skinned his Teddy Ruxpin and put Marilyn Manson's Smells Like Children cassette in it.

Ooh, what a rebel.

Anyway, boy oh boy does this look awful. I think you guys covered all of the reasons why, though. Also, did anyone watch the Smurfs growing up? Because it always seemed like the shitty Smurf puns ("Alright, who smurfed?") they show in the trailer would be something that parodies (like the God-awful Robot Chicken) would do, but not the show itself. Can anyone confirm for me if the show itself used smurf puns?

They used smurf for pretty much anything. That kind of content wasn't in Smurfs, though, at least not in terms of smurf and smurf jokes. The eighties were a kinder, smurfier time and the show was packed with bland, wholesome, smurfy content. I don't think that the people that did it were clever enough to pull anything like that off (using clever, of course, as a relative term).

My dad used to play Twisted Sister and The Skorpions in my Casey The Talking Tape Player!

By the way the stories that came with that thing were horrible.

I'd like to remind the people going on about an unimaginative property can't equal a good movie about where the wild things are. A short book about a kid yelling at his parents and then going to an island with monsters turned into an epic heartwarming movie while still keeping the spirit and look of the book alive.

This would be even easier to do with the smurfs. You need a village with blue people and an evil wizard hunting them with a cat. That has an entire universe of wiggle room to work with. What they come up with is "smurfs in the real world" which is less imaginative than the original show.

For some reason, that was always the cartoon that was on on my grandmother's television.

Maya the Bee wasn't as bad as Lambert the Sheepish Lion.
