I actually think Majora's Mask is a worthy winner (if we go with the incorrect 2000-2009 that is), and it is probably my third favorite game during that period, only behind two PC-strategy titles that would never stand a chance in a competition like that anyways. Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda-game thanks to the fantastic atmosphere Anouma and his team managed to make in Termina, with the world turning faster and faster as it approaches its doom, the people getting less and less happy, and the extremely strange sensation if gave to re-watch the last days of all the npc's again and again. When I finally had helped all the people of Termina, it was bittersweet to play through the three days one last time to wait for the Moon to collaps, especially since I had not helped anybody on that cycle, only on earlier cycles (which by all logic should mean that in practice, they were not really helped). The Anju-Kafei-sidestory was also great, and in my opinion much more emotional than all the emo-shit that SquEnix throws after us. Great game, worthy winner!

The sidestory was great, but fuck that part where you have to break into the thief's cave. So annoying!

Yeah, that sucked. There was a few annoying moments in the game, but I guess that applies to almost any game out there.

Honestly, I felt the Ice Temple was more annoying than anything in the game. I suck with Goron Link.

The water temple was the worst. Fighting that fish boss made the game feel broken.

Yeah, that Temple was a pain, but not that hard the second time through. And while we're at it, the Upsidedown Temple was a pain as well.

Wrong. They specified the decade as the 00s, which is 2000-2009. A decade is a spawn of ten years. Any ten years. Until you start ranking them.
The contest wasn't called "Best Game of the 201st Decade", so 2000-2009 is okay.
Don't try to asterisk my favorite Zelda game

Well, the way people popularly view decades is stupid and wrong. There is no year zero on either the Gregorian or Julian calendars, so official decades, centuries, and millenium have to be counted 1-10, 1-100, and 1-1000 and not 0-9, 0-99, and 0-999. It may be easier to say "The Eighties", but strictly speaking, the 80s is 1981-1990, not 1980-1989.

I actually think that boss is really easy, beat it one my first try back when I first played the game, and never really had problems with it later either. The temple itself on the other hand, was pure pain.

QFT, and this way got a lot of traction in the year 2000, which even when I was 12 years old kind of bothered me.
And on topic, Majora's Mask is worthy to be up there, but I think it's pretty much held that it doesn't really belong at #1. Then again, I couldn't really say what would myself, as I have my favorites, but wouldn't think that they're great amazing games that I think everyone has to play.

Took me hours to figure out that I needed to follow the pipes... and that boss really is broken. If you have L for levitate on, and swim in the air as a Zora, he'll also swim in the air, swallow you, go back in the water. And that goes for anywhere in the air. He followed me back up to the fucking door.

Deus Ex would have been a worthy winner as well imo. Its a great game, just not as great as Majora's Mask Now, why don't they make first person shooters like that anymore?

Deus Ex and Majora's Mask are both great games for the same reason: they were cross-genre games that challenged the video game establishment to rethink game design.

Honestly, if it was up to me, I would probably give it to GTA III. To me, that felt like the first game to really push the boundary for the design, and the large free world environment that hardly restricted you. It really felt like the first game to bring about the modern age of gaming.

It really was new and amazing when it first came out, but have you played it recently? The controls are wonky and the missions blow, Vice City and San Andreas improved up the framework GTAII laid down quite a bit.
When it comes to GTAIV I'll pass and play Saint's Row 2.

You can probably say that about almost any game, but I think at the time, it really was cutting edge. And while they have made improvements to the games, I still think III holds up and could easily sit down and play it again with little issue. Again, this is just based on what I feel really felt like THE game of the last 10 years.

If I was gonna give it to a GTA, it would be Vice City. Vice City was the coolest GTA game they made. The stuff that came before it was meh.

I really liked San Andreas the most, but then again I love the early 90s G Funk era.

I never really got into the GTA-games, but if this was to be decided by importance, than I guess World of Warcraft would be the unquestionable winner, followed by The Sims, Wii Sports and GTA3.

I'll pass on both and play Just Cause 2.
Anyway, while I absolutely love MM, I think RE4Wii would have been a worthy title, as well.
