To be specific with this one, long-ass passwords that took half a page to write down and turns out you mistyped ONE letter, thus not only realizing that you wasted 5 minutes writing the password altogether, but also wasted hours of gameplay for that matter, forcing you to start again...
I'm looking at you, River City Ransom!!! |
metroid was bad at this too.

Backwards controls. Pressing Select to move through menus, for example. Tetris games with one rotation button.

I feel the same way. I've just played it too many times and I really don't feel the need to play it again. It really surprises me to see it consistently tops all time greatest video game lists (but better a Nintendo game than a fucking PS2 or PC game).

It wouldn't matter what system the game was on as long as it legitimately lived up to the hype/praise/accolades.

I know where they are and I avoid using them just fine. I do get the final Warp Whistle in SMB3, but for me, that's just a consequence of my true objective at the time: The Fire Brothers.

Great call, it's hard to really "finesse" the bricks when you can only rotate them in one direction.

I've played sonic games, just don't go too fast and you can make it through from my memory, even on the first time through. I may be wrong i hazven't played them in awhile
Sehk's complaints Syd was that it was impossible, or near impossible to go trhough a sonic level on the first try. That it require memorization to beat. Mario definitly doesn't have that quality, and i didn't play or remember sonic enough to know for sure if Sehk's statement is true. I think he's just going to fast.

Crystalis bored me last time I played it
But Faxanadu and The Guardian Legend continue to be awesome each and every time I play them.

The final boss of Guardian Legend pisses me off to no end. I've never been able to get into Faxanadu. Too stiff a game for my tastes.
Something else I remembered about old games that gets me? Respawn spots where enemies just keep coming and coming unless you can get past that point on the screen. The original Ninja Gaiden has a ton of these as does Fester's Quest.
Ya know what? Fuck Fester's Quest period.

Wow. To tell the truth I flat-out worshipped the zelda games on N64, but that's just me. Not being able to move diagonally in the original legend of zelda pissed me off. Also, I hate how the final boss is invisible. Was that a programming error or something?? If not it was a cheap/lazy move on their part.

Sega's release of Tetris had three buttons that all rotated one way. You could press two or three of them very quickly in succession to get quick 180 or 270 rotation, but I still wonder why neither Atari nor Sega got the idea to put in a clockwise rotation button from the get-go.

I hate that there are so many classic games. I don't have time to play every classic game! I wish more games sucked, so that I could play every classic game ever.

I just pretend to have played as many as I can remember the names of to make myself look more knowledgeable than I am. I don't know why since it doesn't impress anyone, but it makes me feel important.

I hate that somewhere in the transition between a child and adulthood you inevitably seem to lose at least half of your classic games, and its almost always your favorite one that disappears forever.

Especially prone to me as I move alot, this fate befelled my DKC cart and it upsets me to this day even though I can easily play it on Snes9x or something and I have DKC2 which is better by far.

I was so pissed when I lost my entire collection of over 30 Gamecube games.

When you enjoy a particular game a lot during its heyday, but years later, with the advancing technology, when you take another look at it, it's too outdated for you to truly enjoy again.

I know where three of them are, but I still make it through the game without those.

This. Faxanadu and Battle of Olympus are the first examples that come to mind.

Ooh, good tip. I've never beaten GL either.
Also, I don't know how I ever had the patience for the first Final Fantasy. I hate how when you direct someone to attack an enemy and the enemy dies before the character gets their turn in, they simply do nothing.
