If only rocket launchers weren't illegal.... Sigh.

Someone will find out where if that happens. You know they will.

Agreed. The day I saw them holding signs--at a Marine's funeral, a guy who died for the country and whose fucking FAMILY was there, in abject mourning--that said "thank god for dead soldiers" I was deeply, deeply in hate. I know they feed off it, but I can't help myself. I want them all to die, and I want it to be in a horrible, painful, and bloody way. And I want to watch.

I honestly believe there should be some reform to free speech, especially when it's blatant that some people use it with the intent to harm others. I would almost say that would be fair to put in there, however it would probably lead to the end of free speech altogether.
Maybe events such as funerals should be made the exception of free speech in that "in a time of mourning" or something along those lines.
We had a guy in our town who got picketed against when he died because he was a major high school football star and was openly homosexual, so these assholes showed up and caused havoc. I am truly truly amazed that no one has tried to assassinate Phelps yet. I'm not asking for that to be the answer by any means, I'm just saying I find it amazing they've gotten away with so much.

Dodds, they don't because most of the time, when someone starts trying to reason or do anything to the WBC, they accuse them of infringing on their rights and sue them, or when someone snaps and tries to beat them, rightfully IMO, they claim assault. It's just not worth it anymore.

It makes you wonder... what gives people the right to say things like that? Besides the freedom of speech, I mean. It's just appalling that someone would assume the right to so blatantly abuse the ability to live the way they want to and make OTHER peoples lives absolute hell.

I honestly can't believe that one of them hasn't been killed or been beat to shit for doing that crap yet. I can tell you this much, if anybody did that at a funeral for one of my close friends or family I would be going to jail, and at least one of those assholes would be going to the hospital at the same time.
And I would honestly consider making the drive to picket a funeral for one of their own. Then afterward I would piss on the grave and put it up on Youtube.

You track him down, we'll all get together and pee on him, then we'll write an elaborate story about it in the NWO.

I'm definitely of the school of free speech, but really, shouldn't this be jurisdicted under hate crime laws? It's not illegal to be racist, but if you use your free speech to incite violence or hatred against differing races or sexualities, it's no longer free speech, but a hate crime. Couldn't picketing funerals, a deliberately emotional-traumatizing act, fall under such hate laws?
It's my understanding that intentional infliction of emotional distress is NOT covered under free speech laws, EXCEPT for purposes of satire (ie, Larry Flint vs. Jerry Falwell). Is Phelps roundaboutly admitting to satire, or enjoying hatespeech that simply isn't litigated against yet?

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

They may be using 'freedom of religion', rather than freedom of speech. After all, they have established themselves as a religion, albiet a small one.
And yes, a road trip would be fantastic.

Wendy Dio, wife/manager of late heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (Dio, Heaven & Hell, Black Sabbath, Rainbow), has released the following statement in response to reports that the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) — an independent Baptist church and hate group known for its hatred of homosexuals and its protest activities (which include picketing funerals) — intends to picket Ronnie's upcoming public memorial service:
"Ronnie hates prejudice and violence! We need to turn the other cheek on these people that only know how to hate someone they didn't know. We only know how to love someone we know!"
The church, which was the subject of a 2007 BBC documentary entitled "The Most Hated Family In America" (Video 1, Video 2), is made up mostly of pastor Fred Phelps and his family. The pastor has 13 children, and at least 54 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He described himself as an "old-time" gospel preacher in a CNN interview in 2006, saying, "You can't preach the Bible without preaching the hatred of God."
Ronnie James Dio's public memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m. at The Hall Of Liberty located at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, California.
For more information on the Westboro Baptist Church, read this entire CNN.com article from June 2009.
Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.
Good on her

Fuck it, I live close enough to Topeka. I'm going to kill these people.
In all seriousness, if they ever do anything close to where I live again, I'm trolling their protest. My dad signed up to be a part of the group of people that prevents them from getting near military funerals, so I figure that generating some lulz at the WBC's expense is the least I can do.

One of the most reprehensible organizations on the planet.
They always pissed me off whenever I'd hear about them picketing the funerals of all those gay soldiers. I hope a group of angry, coked up, drunken bikers show up and chain their asses to death.
Oh, and this video:

They're called the "Patriot Guard Riders" around here. It started out as a group of bikers, but it spread to vets and people working at the guard base, too. I think it's open to the general public now, but I'm not sure if it's a national thing.

I like how they mention his "worshipers." Now I know he was popular, but I don't think anyone has a shrine to Dio set up in their houses where they make blood sacrifices to RJ.

Why would anyone be a Satanist? Wouldn't that mean that you'd have to believe in the canon of THE BIBLE? According to THAT book, Satan is the losing side...As they say in "Little Nicky," "Pick me a winner."
