My favortie: The Princess Bride.

William Goldman did a great job adapting his own book into a screenplay. He removed what couldn't have been done well from the book (Such as Prince Humperdink's "Zoo"), and the movie is to this day, a classic that is loved by multiple generations.

This. I heard the ending was bad but watched it anyway, I was hooked for pretty well the entire movie, and then the end lost me. I was expecting a bad ending but that was worse than what I was expecting. Now I kind of want to read the book.

I didn't read the book so I'm not sure how it compared but I really like No Country For Old Men.
