In my opinion, games are too popular these days and since all of the casuals are either kids(Wii) or stereotypical dumb teenagers(360) we get the crappy attempts at being hard and edgey all the time on 360/PS3 with the same sandbox and/or shooting shit.
We need another video game crash.

I love games in space. I like exploring places in videogames that I could otherwise not really go.
Also to the OP, very into Just Cause 2 at the moment.

Impossible, games are far too ubiquitous at this point.

Don't get me wrong, I love Mario Galaxy. But I'm sick of games where every thing is black and gray with some random glowy blue bullshit thrown in for contrast.

I tried the demo of JC2 yesterday and it was pretty fun, but I feel I've played it already in other forms like Crackdown, Farcry, and even Fallout 3.

I agree with another crash, I have hardly any interest in video games these days. It's pretty sad that the only game I've bought since RE5 was Mega Man 10, a fucking 8-bit video game.
Edit: Maybe it's not entirely fair to blame the industry. While things have certainly lost the magic of ten years ago and older, I think maybe I'm just older too and worn out on it. It's the natural cycle of life to hate the new and cast it into the shadows of the old.

A crash would be terrible. The only companies that would survive are the large, diverse companies who are responsible for most of C- games on the market right now. Those companies are Sony, Microsoft, EA, and Activision.
Ever enjoyed a game by Nintendo, Capcom, Konami, Square Enix, Sega, Arc System Works, or Namco? They wouldn't survive a crash.

It's becoming very difficult for all these companies to think of original material for games these days. Late 70's and 80's were the golden age of video games because everything that came out was original since there was no precedent for any of it. But nowadays the popular types of games have proven themselves and all the companies stick to what sells. They don't want to take any risks.
FPS games and 3rd person action games are pretty much the major standard with a few mediocre RPG's thrown in for good measure.
Now rather than making games built for their replay value, they rely on (expensive) downloadable content for replay value and cripple your pre-DLC experience to force you to spend more money. To be honest, I think DLC is a great thing, the problem is the way it's handled (great for the developers, terrible for the gamers.)
Anyway, bask to the topic at hand:
I'm going to pick up Just Cause 2 for sure, but I'm still hesitant about what else to get.

Nintendo has the financial resources to survive a crash.

Yeah, true. They do hoard money like mofos. They have the financial resources to buyout all major third party game publishers, and I kinda wish they would. I really wish they had bought Midway. Nintendo could have used the MA cred that Mortal Kombat would have given them, and they could have done some good things with Rampage.

Who wouldn't want to see Scorpion in the next Smash Bros. game as the broken bonus boss who annihilates people in five hits with his constant running, ten-hit combos, stun spam, and teleporting all over the place?

Man, I've got tons of fantastic new ideas I've come up with over the years just from daydreaming. It really makes me sad that the things in my head will probably never materialize. I don't see getting into the video game industry being a realistic enough goal to bother.
I think Sega should make another console and then Apple should get into the game for the next generation just to fuck everyone's shit up. Could you imagine 5 consoles competing at once? That'll kill the industry.

Apple's console would be overhyped and priced at like 900 dollars, it would produce the next 599 US dollars fad.

I want a game where I get to serial kill people and watch the life drain from their HD faces as I stab them over and over again.

I was going to respond with a tactless comment about that Japanese rape game, but I decided it may not be the best idea.
