Starting with dark cloud, on with xenogears, FFX, dot hacks, magna carta, the shadow hearts series, baten kaitos, dragon quest VIII, disgaea 1-2, mana klemia, growlanser, steambot chronicles, suikoden V, SMT nocture, digital devil saga, persona 3 and ESPECIALLY persona 4. Thats not counting a probably very large list of ps2 games I forgot, and the fact that backwards compatibility makes the collective library of ps1 games available.
In other words, almost certainly the best system for RPGs ever made. If the Crono Trigger and FFV and VI collections on the ps1 had been halfway playable, that would have been it.

I always loathed the PS2 in its heyday because it killed off my beloved Dreamcast and also that its graphics were subpar compared to even the Gamecube which sold as cheap as $99 new when the aging PS2 was still $199. I wouldn't get a PS2 until I got the slimline for $25 on CL a few months back. I refused to pay 129.00 for a new PS2 when I could get a used XBOX360 for $160 and I wasn't investing $70 used for a system that is 10 years old.
I realized recently however that the PS2 smokes the original Xbox and Gamecube in terms of the number of good quality games. The PS2 doesn't have Resident Evil 0 or Rebirth or KoToR, yet it makes up for it in many other ways.
The PS2 was a good investment for the non PC gamer of the early to mid 2000's. It gained its respect from me in the end.

I think he maybe refering to the loading issues, although i've not played the ff anthology on ps1, i hear the games are littered with loading screens.

Baten Kaitos wasn't on the PS2. There was probably like seven Tales of Something or Other though.

from what i recall, and my limited experience w/the PS1, EVERYTHING had loading screens.
the PS2 as well, but not as badly as the PS1. but, iirc, it had the worst loading times in terms of GCN v PS2 v XBOX. XBOX being the best and the GCN a close second.
i could be wrong though

I've never minded loading screens as it's a chance to have a drink or a little smoke. I've quit smoking recently

Chrono Trigger on playstation did have some rather obnoxious load times and it was well beyond what was deemed acceptable at the time. We're talking around 3-5 seconds before EVERY battle. It was painful.

I'd never played Chrono Trigger on the SNES, so I didn't particularly mind.

Not a whole lot at the moment, just stuff for some quick playthroughs and social fun: Tekken 3, Tekken 5, Soul Calibur II, Soul Calibur III, Castle of Shikigami 2.
I know there are a shit ton of RPGs I should get.
