Again, not trying to be dickish or anything, but Hurt Locker was a really simple story with no real drama or interest built through it.

When I watch a movie, I want to watch a movie. I want to see characters, I want to see character development and I want to get attached to these characters. These characters don't need to be parodies or over the top characters, but if you don't do anything to these characters, then why should the viewer want to watch them? The Hurt Locker follows 3 characters, the fearless guy, the fearful guy and the man in the middle. There is never any real story arc in this movie and I kept wondering what it was I was watching. You get a side story involving a small boy and the fearless guy snapping, but it leads to nothing. None of it was interesting, it just seemed to act more as a biopic than an actual movie. If movies aren't entertaining then why should I watch it? And I really truly did WANT to like this movie, but it just felt so average to me.

I just like movies that feel real, not movies that feel like a goddamn Looney Tunes episode. That's all.

I liked them both A LOT. All I need to know about the Hurt Locker comes from what I experienced during the sniper scene. I've seen scout snipers train, and that was dead on to what they do. Spotter and shooter, ignoring what's going on around them INCLUDING bullets hitting five feet from their faces. It was filmed with amazing, amazing tension. Couple that sort of tension (entertainment?) with a realistic depiction of something as intense as war, and you have my vote.

As for IB... I liked it a lot, but I didn't love it the same way I love Pulp Fiction, and to a greater extent, Reservoir Dogs. It was very drawn out, and with the exception of Christoph Waltz's character, didn't have terribly interesting characters. I would have liked it MUCH more if we spent more time with the Basterds and less away from them.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

That's completely fair, but it begs the question- what's the appeal of IB then? What did we learn about Aldo Raine? What did we learn about Waltz's character (whose name I can't remember)? What did we learn about ANYBODY except Shoshanna?

And if one character's story is sufficient for you, then the Hurt Locker had that for you too. We learned about Renner's character's family, and saw the implications of his attitude towards war on his family life.

I get where you're coming from, but if you're attacking the Hurt Locker for lack of character development, then IB can be attacked for the same thing.

I really did like the tension in The Hurt Locker. I liked that there was not a ton of action but the action we did get was very intense.

However I found the dialogue to be more creative in Inglourious Basterds, but Quentin Tarantino already won for creative dialogue in Pulp Fiction maybe that is why the Academy was more willing to give it to The Hurt Locker.

It shouldn't matter who wins what when and where, it should matter best of the year. If they just decide winners based on it being their due via Martin Scorsese.

And my god...does it pain me to hate Ben Stiller right now...

I know, I want to slap him as hard as I want to slap James Cameron.

Yeah, I generally like Ben Stiller but that was pretty lame. I hope it was not his idea. Glad to see Star Trek win for best makeup though.

I hope Avatar gets shut out of everything except visual imagery or whatever that category is called. Good god that movie was overrated.

Also, I would do disgusting things to Rachel McAdams.

I agree on both fronts

I enjoyed Avatar, but it was by no means the best movie I saw last year. I think the only hype movie I did not see was District 9.

Moot point.. Mo'Nique won. ::fart noise::

Edit: And THAT'S why. The politics? What the fuck is she talking about? And does she mean it would be unpopular for her to take a role that puts her in prime position to score that Oscar? Like I said... ::Fart noise::

"Horror movies don't get the respect they deserve."

Maybe because 98% of them completely suck ass. And the other 2% is only good for comedy purposes.

Oh...and Edward Scissorhands isn't a "horror" movie like they showed...much like a lot of those other movies that fall under; Sci Fi, Supernatural or Suspense.

Total agreeance here. Jaws isn't horror, it's suspense.

I actually think Hurt Locker is going to win everything but Best Picture...Avatar will probably get it.

Again...2009 was a bad year for movies. Sad

If Avatar wins Best Picture, I'm going to drive to California and personally kick James Cameron in the face.

Only if you video tape it.

Are we talking bicycle kick, big boot or dropkick?
