This result pleases me. Party affiliations aside, I really don't like Coakley.
This means nothing. It's just her being gracious in defeat.
It doesn't matter if you conceded, dropped out a month ago, or told each and every voter that if they vote for you, you'll knife them in their sleep. If your vote total is higher, you win.
It just ticks me off that people think a concession call means something. |
Of course a concession call means something. It's a sign of weakness, just like apologizing. That's why real men like me never compromise or apologize.

I just watched his victory speech, the man seems like a class act. He ran a great campaign. Good for him. I certainly feel good about the mid-term elections in November. There are 38 seats in the House up for grabs that are in districts that McCain won.

I have no love for most politics, but IMHO the best three politicians this country ever produced were FDR, Ted Kennedy and Tip O'Neal. Three liberal Democrats.
Notice I said 'Politicians'. I didn't say statesmen, leaders or any other thing.
Tip once said 'All politics is local'. He was right. It is.
Ted Kennedy knew this, and he was damned good at playing the game. He hired a HUGE staff with the responsibility of helping PEOPLE.
A call to Ted's office generally got results. Having a problem getting an adoptive kid into the states? Call Ted. Bam. Visa application goes straight to the head of the line. Problems with a Coast Guard renewal? Call Ted. Bam! Done!
Ted was smart enough to know that a simple favor paid dividends. He also knew that each favor he did was worth several votes.
The smartest thing Brown can do is study Ted Kennedy and learn how to play the game.
One hand washes the other.
If Brown can water his grass roots he will go far.

This win is just as much an indictment of the state Democratic party as it is the national leadership, if not moreso. The state legislature has hiked tolls, hiked sales tax, and repeatedly refused to lower a state income tax hike that was supposed to be temporary. Martha Coakley may have been running for an office on the national stage, but she was still very much the hand-picked candidate of the same cretins who are running our state into the ground. And people are fed up with them.
But on the national level, things are getting bad for the Dems too. Pelosi has pledged that healthcare would pass with or without Coakley. Well, when both Coakley and Brown painted Brown as a 41st "no" vote on healthcare, how is that productive? If the majority of the people in Massachusetts don't want Obama's healthcare, then I can't imagine there's a majority of support for it in ANY state. In fact, polls show Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid trailing his challenger by 10 points. Now granted, Brown trailed Coakley by 30 points right after the primaries and anything can happen, but obviously that's not an encouraging sign for them.
If Democrats don't adopt a conciliatory, bipartisan message or magically turn the economy completely around by November, you can expect them to take further beatings in midtern elections.

She deserved to lose, that was the worste campaign ever. She had 16 events in the week running up to the election, Scott Brown had something like 60. I'm very happy she lost.

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo! |

I've always wonder about this in all politics as well....
I remember this documentry I saw with my dad around the time of the '08 election, It showcased people who didn't won't Obama in office (some were more outward and to the point about it compared to others who beat around the bush) and it interviewd a group of men livivng in basically a trailer park. They kept going on and on about how things are gonna "change for the worse" and yet I wanted ask them "What have the last 8 years of Bush being in the white house done for you?" I understand you want a leader that shares your views and all....but fuck, let you benefit at least just a little for you voting for the person. Isn't that what it's all about? You and your country benefitting from this person being in office?

Go Massachusetts! I hope Senator Brown makes a healthy contribution to solving the many problems this country faces. While I myself am a libertarian, I usually vote republican because I care much more about financial policy than social policy. The reason our government is broken is because it has grown into a money squandering liberty infringing behemoth that cripples markets and only benefits the criminals who run it. It is time to bring government back down to its' proper size, and I hope Senator Brown truly believes in these ideas, and will not simply be another Republican "nobot"

This was not a sign that people are sick of Democrats, nor was Obama's election a sign people are sick of Republicans.
It's a sign people are sick of politicians.

Obama's election was in response to the sudden economic downturn right before the election. Before that, McCain was ahead of Obama in the polls. Then, the Republicans became convenient scapegoats.
Brown's election was in response to the spendthrift, tax-happy politics of the current Democraic regime, because they have made a lot of lofty promises and failed to fix our economy thus far. Is it fair that their being blamed for the economy? Maybe, maybe not. But Reagan and the Republicans were punished in the 1982 midterms for failing to fix the bad economy they inherited from Carter.

If we start talking about economy I have a question for you then : what would happen if the Euro became the base currency instead of the US Dollar?
Someone told me one of the reason the US$ didn't plummet during the crisis was because it would greatly affect other countries if that happened, so those countries helped it keep it's worth.
I'm mostly wondering if he that makes sense or if he just told me bullshit.

My liberal history professor admitted that the Democrats got their asses kicked in Mass. A good day for Republicans in the Blue North.

If you know anybody that went to the war in Iraq then your life has been affected by who was elected in office. Without turning this into a debate on the Iraq war, one can make a strong case saying that war never would have happened had Gore been elected instead of Bush. And in this Senate race, lets assume Brown didn't win, and Coakley won and helped pass the current health care bill, you more then likely would have noticed, especially if you aren't a full time employee and have to pay for your own health insurance or risk breaking the law. Peoples lives are going to be affected by who is elected, weather you realize it or not.

In the interest of injecting some much needed fun in to this serious conversation, here's a Lewis Black quote.

Lewis Black generally suuucks, but that was pretty funny.
I am a moderate Libertarian, or a conservative who smokes pot, though I don't actually smoke pot, but both parties have totally disgusted me this last year, and completely turned me off from politics. Their all a bunch of babies. I mean people actually protesting Barak Obama speaking at their children's schools? Thats so fucking disgusting and terrible. He's the god damn president, he's not going to indoctrinate your children with "Socialist Ideologies" you racist nitwits. Also, he's been in office for one fucking year, how is one expected to fix an economy in that amount of time, especially when they have little control over it.
That being said, this win was a good message to the Democratic Majority. Their behavior of fuck the other party, we're in control and going to do whatever the fuck we want is also quite nasty.
I'm moving to Estonia. See you guys later.
