"American Dad" seems to be becoming the new "King of the Hill". Started out unwatchable, somehow managed to stay on the schedule, it slips under the radar, and 10 years later, you see it and think, "Holy shit, is that still on the air?" And it actually turned out to be a decent show.

I fucking despise American Dad, it's just a big heap of forced jokes. The is nothing on air now by Seth Macfarlen that I find watchable in the slightest.

I love King of the Hill. I always thought it was a very well written character driven show. It was like an animated sitcom, a good one. I also enjoyed the finale. "Under the bleachers, that's where at risk youth gather!"--Hank Hill

That wasn't the finale, that was the episode before the finale. but "I want to see underbelly of underbelly!"

I'm with ya...he's become a complete whore when it comes to shows. I mean when it shows how weak Family Guy has become, the last thing you'd want to do is put on another show...let alone TWO.

Also, I still can't help thinking how much he reminds me of Christopher Knight of Brady Bunch fame.

Yes you're correct Dr. Jeebus, I forgot they had two episodes back to back on the last night. The actual finale was even better than the episode I drew my quote from. I love how Hank and Bobby finally connected over something, the last scene was touching. You simply won't find a Family Guy episode that hits you like that. Same goes for The Simpsons in the last 10 years (with some exceptions).

McFarlane just needs to stop doing everything except American Dad. That's the only funny show coming from him at this point, and it's also been getting consistently better. In fact, American Dad has been consistently superior to Family Guy for the past 2 full seasons, and going on a third.

Same here. I guess I just like to see if they can make it any worse than the previous episode.

I really think that he could make Family Guy work if he stopped trying to be the Howard Stern of cartoons. It was funny when it was his imagination running wild rather than just shock treatment for the audience.

Exactly.

If you honestly think Family Guy is offensive, then I wonder your thoughts on South Park. I stand behind my opinion in saying that SP is the funniest damn show on TV. It is genius!! "NO!! I AIN'T GIVIN' YOU NO TREE FIDDY YOU GOD DAMN LOCH NESS MONSTA!!"

FG seems to have a real pent up hard on for Jew jokes. I know FOX is letting them run whatever they want now, but just because you CAN doesn't mean you should - especially when you don't have any funny jokes to make. I'm not Jewish, I'm not offended, but it is in poor taste and not funny. If it's in poor taste AND funny like they've done in the past, right on; it's all good.

The difference betweeen satire and intolerance is whether or not it's funny.

When Family Guy does a ethnic or religious joke that falls flat, it makes you feel uncomfortable, and it makes you feel a little bit embarassed to be watching it.

I don't understand how someone could not like American Dad. It saddens me.

I can understand the people who love Family Guy not liking it because it may not be "offensive" enough, whatever the hell that means, but the show is written better and is flat out funnier. I would love to see all of the momentum go away from Cleveland and Family Guy and more energy put into American Dad.

Note only is it better written, it has more engaging characters. Unlike Family Guy were Meg merely exists and Chris is nothing more than an awkward teen, the entire family (Even Klaus) on American Dad is well developed and entertaining, and while the cast is smaller than Family Guy's, there's still a lot of depth to all the other characters like Bullock, the gay newscasters whose names I can't recall at the moment, Snot and Steve's other friends, and Hailey's boyfriend.

Agreed. And how about we get some sort of name change for this topic? There is a Family Guy general thread now. We have talked about American Dad more than this particular Family Guy episode. Whaddya say?

South Park is very offensive, and I've found very good episodes are nearly ruined for me because they just HAVE to throw in a disgusting joke (Warcraft episode leaps to mind). But unlike Family Guy, South Park is often also very intelligent behind the lowbrow humor, and very, very good satire. Family Guy is just...dumb.

I guess I must be in the minority then, sure there are some entertaining moments for Am dad but it just doesn't do it for me.

American Dad can be funny sometimes, but Roger and Klaus are terrible characters that can ruin entire episodes.
