I just got the DLC4, but have everything so maxed out that I am not gonna play it until they give us the increased level cap patch. I am getting all this XP and it's going no where.

Yeah... I didn't really understand that choice.
It would have made more sense to release the patch for the level update and then the DLC... not the inverse.

My wife got this for me recently, and we're currently both level 22 (I'm the Brick and she's the Siren). We're working on getting Live but only have one headset. We're having a blast in the Dahl Headlands so far.

You'd be surprised how much stress the game relieves when dealing with a puppy shitting all over my hardwood floors.

He peed in the bed yesterday night before I got home so my fiance banished him to the hallway for the remainder of his life.

Started playing this again, Lillith on AoGK. Drifters are filthy bastards, but a Hellfire SMG is Lilliths hands is still death incarnate. Still need to play through as Brick.

I hate to be a naysayer, but this game just doesn't hold my attention that well.

Which class did you play?

I was the soldier. And it's been so long since I played it, I don't remember where I was. I'll probably pull it out sometime, but I don't count on it.

The soldier class was my least favorite. The turret is really a team based helper.
The siren has been my favorite so far. Lots and lots of bullets. She is also by far the most forgiving character to play as.

Yeah, badass, plus that one level up with the passing shields, I got that at like level 20 or so, loving it so much.

Do you need DLC #4 to get it or just Borderlands?

Me and three friends are about purchase the Xbox 360 Game of the Year edition today and start a new game together tonight. I'm really excited, especially with all the raving you guys have done so far.
If you guys have any general tips for the beginning of the game (what weapons tend to work pretty well, what not to spend cash on), I'd appreciate it. Also, I'm going to play as Roland, so any recommendations on what skills to use and avoid would be great.
Also, for those skills where you get X for a few seconds after killing an opponent, how long do such skills tend to last until they wear off?
Thanks to anyone who gives me some input!

Roland is the only character I can't give much advice on. I hate combat rifles. I find them to be slow, low in damage, and frustrating. What they offer in accuracy compared to a SMG is made up for in the SMG with leveling the weapon skill.
As you play through the first time, the best advice I can give is to get used to having two weapons you like. One that can hit a target at a good long distance and one that puts out a lot of bullets quickly up close.
You don't need your ranged weapon to be a sniper rifle, it just needs to have good accuracy. Eventually when you get enough weapon slots (There are 4 that you get eventually) then take a sniper rifle everywhere. However, when you start and only have two slots I strongly suggest you take one from each of the following groups.
Group A: Close Range
Pistol - One with a high fire rate - The clipper is great to start after 9 toes (first boss)
SMG - One with medium fire rate and medium damage - almost always stronger than a pistol, but blows through ammo early in the game until you upgrade them. Bonehead (level 11, outdoor respawning miniboss) will always drop a purple smg that does good damage.
Shot Gun - One with at least 20 accuracy. Once you get lower than that it is almost a melee weapon. Also, more shot in it is better the closer you get.
Group B: Medium to long distance
Sniper Rifle - These are by far the easiest weapons in the game to use. They almost hit dead on even without using the scope. They are high damage and as long as they have 5-6 bullets and a fire rate around 1, you will find them to work similar to some shotguns.
Combat Rifle - Just make sure the one you get doesn't have a 30 second reload time... I exaggerate a bit, but honestly they really do take a long time to reload and they have small clips. I think the reload is the worst because it really lets enemies close in too quickly.
High Accuracy Scoped SMG - There are a few of these things that you can even snipe with. Scoped Thumpers are nasty as hell for keeping range. They almost completely reset from recoil by the time the second shot goes out. Fire rate around 2 and high bullet damage. Don't bother without a 2-3x scope though.
Lastly, a high damage scoped revolver that doesn't shoot in some stupid pattern. A straight bullet from a revolver often has huge damage and hits dead on.

Thanks for the help. It sounds like Combat Rifles/Assault Rifles/Machine Guns take a bit to get used to, but apparently that's what Roland specializes in, so I'll take my chances. Shotguns are always fine with me, and again Roland has a skill that increases their efficiency.
Should I be saving a lot of money in the beginning of the game, or is it okay to spend as I please at any given point?
