I don't get why they can't just drop an insane amount of dry ice on the fire - I mean like TONS.

I think it's due to the fact of how quickly the Dry Ice would melt in comparison to how quickly they can get it into the reactors.
I read somewhere that normally they have cooling pumps pump water into the plant onto the reactors, once they lost electricity and took damage from the quake they no longer worked.
I have a friend who works at a Nuke Plant, and he said all of the ones in the U.S. are equipped with Gravity Fed Cooling Water in case they can't use the primary or secondary pumps. He said that he would assume that Japan would have the same thing since their plants are technologically about the same as ours.
From what I understand, the problem is they just can't get Sea Water into the plant fast enough to cool it down. All the water is evaporating/steaming up and that's what caused one of the explosions.

Talked to a friend who lives over on the island and he's fine, so I'm feeling relieved, but he can't reach two of his colleagues who teach English down south of where he's at. My heart really goes out to all of the people there, and it really does illustrate the differences in our cultures; no rioting, no looting, people working together. Wish we could've done that during Katrina or any other natural disaster here.

The way you said this, I thought Charlie Sheen was going to donate exactly $1 total. I thought I wouldn't put it past him to do that, but still.

In response to Excel's Photo.
There's no fucking way they fixed that road from picture A to B that quickly.
You're telling me in 4 days they leveled that land out, repaved it, and planted trees?
I don't buy that shit.

A Mexican Red Cross member, center, points toward a dead body found by a sniffer dog to French firemen during a search operation in Sendai on March 16.

well, US officials are afraid of this nuclear fallout:
The US government has chartered planes to evacuate Americans from Japan, in a sign that the US is increasingly concerned about the nuclear crisis.

Way to indirectly tell Japan that it is royally fucked, America... I'm sure they'll remember this gesture of confidence once they recover from it.

I don't blame them. I'm sure more than a few of them just want to go home right now.

I feel sympathy for Japan, but I don't feel like it is a bad thing that Americans want to get the fuck out of there.

It's not that they are the only ones leaving either. When they recover from this I would hope they see the donations for relief efforts from America rather than this.

On a side note, I wonder if the Yakuza's over there helping out like they did back then after the Kobe earthquake in 1995.
