From the Megaman Network:
During this weekend at the World Hobby Fair in Japan, Capcom announced the Battle Network/Star Force crossover “Rockman EXE: Operate Shooting Star” for the Nintendo DS. Scarce details are known at this point, but it’s expected to be a data action RPG that will probably be released this year in Japan. Details will be formally announced in the September issue of CoroCoro. It is likely the title that will include this year’s boss character contest winner Clock Genius. At the event, series producer Takeshi Horinouchi stated he has a variety of ideas for projects in mind leading up to Rockman’s 25th anniversary.

Sounds wonderful. I just hope that they have a Legends 3 in mind for Mega's 25th. That would make a lot of people happy and it would make one hell of a game to celebrate. That's just my thoughts on it though. Either way I always look forward to Mega Man games.

How to tell when a franchise has gotten completely out of control: when it can do a crossover with itself.

Ah, let's crossover two of the most pointless MegaMan series' ever, instead of making MegaMan X9. Good idea Capcom!

What I want out of megaman x9-
-8 subweapons that are useful without dominating the game, making you feel great for acquiring them
-rocking soundtrack
-an enemy other than sigma
-a gameplay "innovation" that isnt obnoxious
-style the bosses after rock bands or personalities, ala the one where all of the enemies were named after GnR members.

You gotta have Sigma though. An X game without Sigma is like a Mega Man Classic game without Dr. Wily.

True enough. When Sigma actually died only to be replaced by Lumine I was pretty angry. I'd like to see X9 however I'd be truly happy if they'd release Legends 3. Sure the series wasn't anything like it's 2D predecessor but that's one of the reasons why I loved it. I'm usually a die-hard 2D fan but the way the games played were perfect to me. The levels were fun and the bosses were always a blast to fight (save for the mission on 2 where you had to defend a base from Gale, I HATE battles where you have to look after someone/something other then yourself). Oh well, it will probably come out in due time.

True, I was not the biggest fan of the Legends series, but I would love to see what they would do with it in the current generation.
We haven't seen a Legends game since PS1, why not give Mega an updated 3D styled RPG?

Me, I pretty much gave up hope for a Legends 3 back in '05 when I realized that everything was pretty much resolved in 2.

They made Command Mission for the Gamecube and PS2. Or did you mean a new RPG for the current generation? I never actually got to play Command Mission, but it looks like it might be fun.

You sure? The ending from what I heard, left it at a cliffhanger, which is anything but resolved.

I forgot about Command Mission and never played it. Was it decent? I recall hearing mixed things.
Anyways, I was referring to the current generation.

Positive. The Mother Lode was really just a myth that got mixed up with the truth: Mother Unit. I realize that's a spoiler, but the game has been out for nine years.

It seems like it would be fun. The menus are interactive in a way akin to Shadow Hearts and the gameplay looks pretty solid. I'm a die-hard Mega Man fan though, I'll probably buy it one day.
@Ba'al: **SPOILERS** (just to be safe)
Legends 2 ends with a few questions unanswered. You figure out Mega Man Trigger's true purpose, find out what really happened to Roll's parents, and find out that Data is a lot more then just an annoying little monkey thing. The cliffhanger comes from the fact that Mega Man is stranded on the moon along with another important character or two. In the end you never get to see Roll's reaction to all that happened. Since it's a Mega man game that could have easily made another sequel. I find the gameplay in the Legends series really addicting. If they could manage to bring the series back and still keep the same art style it would be something I'd really look forward to.

I wonder how this crossover is gonna happen anyway. Star Force's story starts 200 years after Battle Network's, but whatever, I'll check it out as a fan of those series.
And yeah, I'd rather have Legends 3 (mainly for how better the controls would be) than X9.

How do you know X9's controls would be sub-par?

Im going to say because he likes the way Legends plays, and that X9 will revolve around the same controls as it's predecessors. As long as X9 isn't 3D ill get it. They lost me at X7 and X8. Also command mission was fun at first but then it just got really mudane. It seemed like the same exact thing all the way through.

Yeah, but MegaMan.EXE or a copy of him could have been hiding in some system somewhere for all that time. Doesn't he make a few cameos in Star Force?

A new update:
The game seems to star both BN MegaMan and SF MegaMan in the BN time period, although it’s unaware if you can play as both. Right now, it appears as though SF MegaMan is the playable one. Furthermore, Harp Note appears too, making it likely that other SF cast members will show up.
There is a new Navi, ClockMan. He is an advanced Net Navi that was created in the SF time period, but of course has come back too. He may be the final design of the boss contest winning entry Clock Genius, but this apparently hasn’t been determined entirely. For now it appears he’s probably an enemy. His dialogue in the picture reads “By the way, I expect this plan to be fulfilled in 32 hours, 8 minutes and 12 seconds!!” This is likely the character indicated by the mysterious post on the RnR3 website.
A lot of the game’s graphics appear to be taken directly from the original Battle Network. Mayl’s room and the internet areas look exactly the same. However, the facial avatars appear to be new. Also, it looks like the game has a map system like BN5DS had.
The game will contain a slick opening movie.

As previously reported, Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star would contain what appears to be MegaMan Battle Network’s classic battle system. A couple of images from the latest issue of CoroCoro reveals that both MegaMans will be playable in this format. The first image shows a battle setup between both MegaMans. Star Force MegaMan will be able to use his lock-on attack, and apparently his shield as well (though this is not shown in the article pictures), but MegaMan.EXE will not, having his own exclusive abilities, so the two will have differences. Both Rockmans will be playable in the game’s storyline as well, though it’s unknown how this will work.
The second page shows that Star Force MegaMan will himself be able to use chips and Navi chips. The attack with Omega-Xis is one such Navi chip. It’s unknown if this Navi chip is somehow exclusive to Star Force MegaMan. Program Advances are shown as one of MegaMan.EXE’s moves, so it’s unknown if Star Force MegaMan will have access to them. Next, along with the minimap there is a similar PET screen to the one from Battle Network 5 DS, albeit without 3D graphics it appears.
Finally, though mostly cut off, there is mention the original Battle Network’s antagonist group, WWW (World Three), so they will likely still play a major role (perhaps with ClockMan as well?).

This game could possibly mean that Crashman, the only remaining MM2 Robot Master, and Crystalman, my personal favorite Robot Master, could finally be revamped.

They should totally make another Zero title. Not that ZX bullshit or anything, but pure balls-to-the-wall Zero. Bonus points for making it as hard as the first game.
