Okay, I wanna lay down a ground rule. NO whining about how cheating isn't right and how it's for people who can't play. No. I don't need that crap.
Alright, 2 of my favorites have to be the flying cheat with Gameshark for LoZ:OoT, because it unlocks pretty much everything from the start, And the "Motherlode" (Yes that's the spelling) cheat for the Sims 2. It gave you $50,000 at a time and coud be used as many times as I needed. You can make the best houses ever with it.

Since you opened the line of questioning...cheating in a video game is fine, so long as all participants are aware and OK with it, and that you don't pretend you're actually good at the game or anything because you can beat it with a God mode cheat.
Personally, I'm a fan of the Tank cheat in GTAIII. Not the tank itself, dropping it from the sky on an unsuspecting public. Also, the Super Sonic code in Sonic 2.
Also, in before UUDDLRLRBAS

Same cheat works for Sims 3 as well.
I would have to add:
"The one hit kills" Game Genie code for Chrono Trigger for the SNES.
"Duping" in the original PC version of Diablo
"spispopd" - Doom
"wanrltw" + "baguvix" - GTA: San Andreas (PC)
"DebugMode = 1" - Neverwinter Nights
I could probably think of alot more.

I meant single player games. Cheating online is the most dickiest of all dick moves I can think of.

I don't go for cheat devices so much. But I love exploits people find in games that went undiscovered by the game's QA, and allow for sequence breaks or other oddities. A couple examples:
- Metroid NES: Using the ice beam and rolling bombs to get into Tourian way early.
- Castlevania SOTN: Wolf glitch in the clock room. You turn into a wolf, jump in the air, transform back into Alucard in midair, then press down+attack to thrust kick the candle on the left side. This serves as a pre-Leap Stone double jump allows you to reach the Colosseum early.
- Oblivion: paintbrushes, when dropped, will remain in midair. So it's possible to use multiple paintbrushes to create a "ladder" and climb to normally inaccessible places. This is apparently also possible in Fallout 3 by dropping items while jumping, but I've never done it myself.
- PSO (v1): unequipping your weapon, then doing the 3-attack melee combo to wedge yourself into a locked door, allowing you to skip around a level at will.

That code goes back to SimCity, sort of.
In SimCity, you had to hold down Shift and type FUND for the money, and using it three times would cause an earthquake. So you'd just do it like a hundred times before you'd started building.
Best glitch ever though is the infinite grenade launcher ammo trick with Jill in the GCN version of Resident Evil. Take THAT, you stupid fucking dogs.

I would have to nominate "BewareOblivionIsAtHand" from Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.

The boat in world 8 of Mario 3 where you can pretty much skip the level by swimming in the lava
Don't know if it's technically a glitch/cheat but I used to love having one freebie

The Cow Level in Diablo II, okay it's not really a cheat, but it's one hell of an easter egg and you can get some mad experience points in it.

Very clutch code good call.
I have to agree with Usa though, the Sonic 2: Super Sonic cheat is so firmly etched into my memory.
I also quite partial to cheats that unlock characters in fighting games that are otherwise overbearingly tedious.

Sad thing is, I never owned a Gameshark or Game Genie or anything like that. So i'll refer to the code/cheat I can still recite in my sleep. The level select code for Sonic 1. (UDLR+ A+ Start) I think my mom showed me that when I was like 4 or 5. Another sad thing, i've still yet to beat Sonic 2 after all these years.

The only glitches/cheats I can remember are the 255 item code on the first Wild Arms. It was a good code however if you used it on items like stat-changing apples it would make the game horribly easy. The only other code I can remember is the infinite shuriken cheat on Revenge of the Shinobi.

Ah crap, I forgot the "id" part. And, yes that was an awesome hommage to the early days of BBS boards and game rumors.

A Game Genie code for Final Fantasy VI (SNES) that lets you start with the Illumina Sword.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but the glitch in Fable that let's you retain items from a quest but restart the quest to get them again.
Also, the Swordless-Link Glitch in Ocarina of Time is by far my favorite.

I have reason to believe that I was the one who discovered this. In Resident Evil Gaiden, if you try to escape and the character you're controlling is packing the Gas Launcher, whether or not you hit the target, you'll kill everything onscreen without expending a round.

Probably because your the only one who actually played that game.
When I first discovered the Mario Bros. glitch when you turn big and small when you get hit, if you time the axe at the end with getting hit. I could never do it on purpose.

It's possibly a cheat, definitely not a glitch. The programmers not only knew about it, they did it intentionally. They actually removed a block from the back of the boat for the North American release so that any form of Mario or Luigi could swim under the boat and then jump back onto it at the very end. In the Japanese version, you need the Frog Suit to be able to jump high enough to make it back onto the boat.
Also, the DULLARD code to unlock the secret menu in the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat was pretty awesome. It was easy to remember, and a not-so-subtle jab at the game core's audience.

*raises hand*
In Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, if you can learn Steal: Ability early enough, it pretty much breaks the game.
The Game Genie code "23A-39F-F9A" for Final Fantasy Legend. It screws up the terrain, and makes random NPCS walk around. If you talk to them, they give you Death Rays, which you can either permenantly equip to one of your characters or sell for a crapload of money.

hmm where to begin?? There's many cheats for GTA that I love: Tank, Blow up all cars, Weapon cheats, flying cars, and then the combination of Peds With Weapons and Pedestrain Riot.
The Debug cheat in The Phantom Menace was great, and a lot easier to access than Shadows of the Empire.
I can also masterfully use the various physics cheats in Tony Hawk games to Matrix myself up to any secret place.
