$250.
I would have preferred $200, but $250 isn't bad. Seeing as that's what the PS2 started at years ago, I can't really complain.

I don't remember what XBox 360 was, but the PS3 is suppossed to be $499 for the 20GB Harddrive version, and $599 for the 50GB harddrive version. I'm going off of memory, but I'm pretty sure that was the announced prices.

The PS3 I've heard is somewhere in the neighborhood of $600.

The Wii is coming with only one controller, but it does have a pack-in game of Wii Sports (the first pack-in I can remember since the SNES). Getting a pack-in of a game I would have bought anyway makes the price essentially $200 to me. Good deal!

Apparently the system will also offer news and weather information. Sadly, the "virtual console" feature won't be free.

I don't think anyone really expected the virtual console to be free, but many there will be some freebies. You know, buy Taito's Cooking Mama: Cooking with International Friends and get Bubble Bobble for free off the Virtual Console. Something like that. Or Preorder Mario Galaxy and get Super Mario World. That would be a good marketing tool. Hopefully they won't screw up the virtual console. If they charge more than $3-5 for a SNES or NES game, I think it'll alienate people.

They've unveiled what the box looks like. The consensus? "Could it look any MORE like an Apple product?"

Eh, it depends if you like the pack-in game or not.
I wonder what "Wii-sports" entails. Sounds like a sampler of a bunch of games. Might be cool to check out, but probably not worth 50 bucks.

Wii Sports was the game that Reggie, Miyamoto, Iwata and a lucky contest winner demoed at E3. Specifically, they demoed the tennis portion of the game. While it's not a top tier title like Mario, Zelda, or Metroid, a free game is still a free game. They chose Wii Sports because it showcases what the system is all about: multiplayer and unique gameplay. Although since they're stressing multiplayer so much, one has to wonder why it only comes with one controller.

http://wii.nintendo.com for the official site:
As for Wii Sports:
"* Play Tennis, Baseball, Golf, Bowling and Boxing in the comfort of one's living room. No ball boys scurrying about, no oil from the alleys to get players dirty and no rain to keep anyone from a day at the court, park or course. Use the Wii Remote controller to mimic the actions of swinging a racket, bat or club, roll a ball down an alley or bring the left jab.
* Players can use their own Mii caricatures in the game and play them against their friends' Miis for a more personalized experience. As players improve, their Miis' skill levels will increase, so that they can see exactly how much better they've become.
* People of all skill levels can pick up and play any of the games in the unprecedented Wii Sports package, making this truly a title for everyone!"

Cool, so they make an AI player out of your rank and it plays according to how well you do? Reminds me of making our guys fight on WWF 2000...cool stuff.

Is gonna run to his GameStop in Staten Island Mall and preorder in 2 minutes!!!
This is awesome!^^
And everybody didn't say the release date which is 11/19... The PS3 has been delayed to 2007, so... Sony, Fuck you...up the ass.^^
I'm getting Red Steel before anything.
EDIT! My fault... the PS3 is coming out in Europe in 2007. the PS3 will be released in America on November 17, 2 days before Wii day, on the 19th.

Wikipedia's entry for the Wii cites that the Virtual Console will set you back $5 for an NES game, $8 for SNES games, and $10 for N64 games.
Thinking about the games that used the Zapper and the Super Scope 6 makes me wonder if the Wii Zapper (aka the Nintendo sawed-off shotgun) will work with those games on the Virtual Console.

$10 for N64 sounds reasonable.... the others not so much. Why would I pay $8 dollars for something that I could easily download for free and that I've probably already played? Of course, one has to wonder if the VC will lead to a new crackdown on piracy.

A friend of mine believes that with the idea of the Virtual Console and Apple's new "iBox" that we may not see a console in the 8th generation of gaming (before your eyes bug out, the PS3/360/Wii is 7th gen), but more of an electronic hub you'd pay and download games to.

Meh. I don't like the of virtual ownership of current gen games. I want a hard copy, dammit, complete with a hard case, glossy instruction booklet, and all sorts of subscription cards and inserts about seizures.

It has. Rom sites have already had to take down Super Metroid and most all Mario games. They only offer the filename.

Really? Wow, looks like Sony may lose this console race, due to the other companies getting market shares way before they do. Not to mention the ass-rapingly high price of the PS3.
