just your basic generic super bowl topic.

its tomorrow. cardinals (who no one thought would ever be there) vs the steelers (and their god damn immaculate catch).

anyhow, feel free to make predictions or talk about old super bowls. or how the patriots are dirty cheaters and they robbed the raiders that one year.

Well, my Cowboys aren't in it so I don't have a huge stake either way (kind of non-stressful, which is nice.) However, I do not like the Steelers at all, and if they win they break the 'Boys record for Super Bowl wins. That, coupled with the fact that the Cardinals is where Emmitt Smith spent his last few years in the NFL, means its Arizona all the way for me.

I have to go with Arizona because they've never been there and them coming to their first Super Bowl and winning would be epic. Last year we had a huge upset when NY beat New England(I wanted NY to win anyway) and maybe this year we'll see a team going into their first Super Bowl coming out on top.

Well, as a Cowboy fan, I'm sure you'll hate me after I remind you that that record of 5 Super Bowl championships that Dallas and Pittsburgh hold is also shared by the Cowboys arch enemy, the 49ers.

Oh, I remember. But they haven't posed much threat lately, to put it delicately. And I do hate the Niners--but I also have a lot of respect for them. Montana, Rice and Young were not only epic players, they were classy people. I like that.

The team I really hate is the Eagles. God I loathe them. (Although, their traditional Monday night matchup with the Boys is usually pretty epic.) They're about the only sports team I will actively root against out of principle. Them, and the Calgary Flames. Ugh,

Well, business is business. I hated him on the Niners, REALLY hated him on the Eagles (he lit us up really good more than once), but he's also damn talented and naturally part of the hatred came from wishing he was on our side lol. Now that he is, he seems to be working out okay. He and Romo have a pretty good thing going, and as Romo matures and learns how to protect the ball better and not force his passes, it'll get even better. So, while not forgotten, its forgiven for the time being. Wink

Dion Sanders was the pickup I couldn't stand. Cocky bastard from the Niners, and we blew most of our salary cap on him. Ugh.

I can understand that. But, in all fairness, he is arguably the best shutdown corner ever. But you did win two without him.

Remember when TO was with the Niners and he used to run out to the big star in the middle of the field? If I were a Cowboy fan, I would want him to do that every single time he scored. I like endzone dances as long as they don't get carried away (and by carried away, I mean getting so silly that they aren't even fun/funny anymore). But for me, this was one of the all time greats.

I haven't watched any football this year.

I suppose I'll guess though:

Steelers: 27
Cardinals: 20

Jealous?

Anyways, Steelers are gonna win this. Of course, I've been known to be wrong on these things.

I liked Adam Carolla talking about the Super Bowl on Jimmy Kimmel.
He starts talking about the Super Bowl around 2:10.

Ah yeah, I do remember that. That was good times. (in the rival, "get your Niner ass of my star" kind of way) Smile

As for Sanders, yeah, he was damn good in his day. But by the time we got him he wasn't doing a hell of a lot. I mean he helped us, sure, but its not like we were in insane desperate need of him. And to blow 35 million on him was just an awful, awful decision. Its part of the reason Emmitt Smith had to go to the Cardinals for his last couple years (Jerry denies that, but I don't believe him. The sanders deal totally, totally fucked up our planned salary cap then.) It's only by the grace of Emmitt being one of the classiest men on the planet that he retired as a Cowboy. (He signed a one day contract for no money with the Boys the last day of his NFL career. Just so he could retire as a Cowboy. I loved him his entire career, but that truly, truly meant a lot as a fan of him and the team.)

Jerry Rice did the same thing. He had signed with my team (Denver) and would have likely been the fourth receiver on the roster behind Rod Smith, Ashley Lelie, and Charlie Adams. He wouldn't have likely got much playing time because Denver likes to uses formations using tight ends, fullbacks, slot receivers and even the second tight end. To put it in perspective, the eventual fourth WR, Todd Devoe only had 9 receptions that season. He knew he wouldn't get much time and decided to retire. 49ers signed him for one day.

Ah, I didn't know that! Good for him. As much as I despised Rice for being an integral part of many Cowboys losses, I always respected his talent, and the way he conducted himself. This is just one more example of that. I'm sure Niners fans appreciated it.

He is a stud. I can't believe I forgot him. But Denver's win/loss record against Oakland was so lopsided during the Shanahan regime I sort of lost sight of any good players on that team. Razz

I'm backing Arizona. My favorite Arizona-based team didn't win last fall, so I guess I'll settle for some guys who shouldn't have even been in the playoffs winning instead.

Also, I got some fucking AWESOME squares for the Super Bowl. First number is Cardinals, second number is Steelers:

7-0
7-7
1-3
0-3
