Tekken 6 is coming to the 360 as well. This will also be the first Tekken game released on a non-Sony console. My question is this: Why is Sony losing exclusives left and right? Hell, next thing you know Metal Gear Solid 4 will show up on 360.

I'll totally do a spit-take if that happens. Although there have been some advances in DVD storage, and multidisc games were commonplace even back in the PS2 days for some RPGs. It could be done.

I truly doubt it would ever come to the XBOX 360, not that the 360 is a bad console or anything, Its just that the Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid series have stayed exclusively on Nintendo Consoles for the earlier games and Sony Consoles for more current ones. I'm not saying that it wouldn't happen, it's just that Hideo Kojima probally wouldn't just give away a series to another system, when I believe I read an article saying that he was keeping it exclusive on PS3.

Tekken has been a Sony exclusive up until now, along with Grand Theft Auto. The times, they are a-changin'.

Grand Theft Auto III & Vice City came out on XBox, Tekken was on GBA. Metal Gear Solid II & III came out on XBox. The only games your ever going to be able to keep exclusive in this day in age are the games made my the systems company and their subdivisions.

In other words, Nintendo and Microsoft have their exclusives and Sony doesn't, because they both have their own first-party software as well as their own second-party companies.

Sony has God of War, Kill Zone, and several others. Those 2 games right there will never see the Wiibox 360.

Oh yeah, that's right. Isn't Resistance: Fall of Man another one?

1. No one cares about Kill Zone or Resistance. God of War is super mega awesome though.
2. Metal Gear was never a Nintendo exclusive, it was on MSX.
3. After the success of SC2, Tekken 4 had been heavily favored for a cross platform release, but Sony supposedly bought their way out of it.
4. Metal Gear 4 will NEVER be on the 360. In the end, Kojima felt that the PS3 wasn't powerful enough to realize his vision for MGS4, there's no way he'll put it on the 360. We might see a redux on the 720 some day though.

The MGS4 game took up a whole 50 GB Blueray disk.
And this article talks about Kojima's opinion on X-Box 360 and MGS series
http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/55468/metal-gear-solid-not-coming-to-xbox-360/
Even though this is from 2 years ago, his regards for it is the same.
As for Tekken, I don't really care much for it. I mean Tekken was a game made by a group of people and if they want to bring it to another console, go for it. It's all about making money. Though I can't really find a game that promoted X-Box 360 much aside from Halo 3 so if they get more games sure whatever.

I have a really hard time believing that games like GTA4, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Orange Box, and Fallout 3 with massive amounts of space, coding, dialogue, and other variables can fit comfortably on a 360 disc, while MGS4 can't fit on a disc because it's cutscenes are longer, and there's a relatively great amount of gameplay variations. Granted, there will need to be scaling back in a lot of areas such as graphics, but maybe with the Xbox's new install feature... ah, screw it, I can't think of anything. We'd probably have to wait for a new edition of the tranquilizer-gun-shoot-em-up to get on the 360.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

It's not that MGS4 *couldn't* be ported to the 360, it's Kojima would never allow it as long as he has any say. People always talk about how graphics don't make a game, gameplay does, well that's not how Kojima feels. Kojima is all about graphics, and right around the time MGS4 came out, he was whining that he was a little disappointed with the final product and that Sony had misrepresented the capabilities of their system.

Your example points out that at some point the company of choice to host the games was changed.
Why would you use this example to show that the company of choice to host the games will not change in the future?

The 360 is also losing exclusives now too, with Lost Planet on the Ps3, and rumors of the same happening to a few other noteworthy 360 games.
And as far as 'no one cares about kill zone or resistance' Kill Zone for the PSP was one of the best selling handheld games last year, and Resistance was also one of the top sellers last year too.
Both 'next gen' consoles really only a have a few titles people will miss out on if they choose one over the other, which is one of the reasons why this generation is going to be so wonderful. You can pick one, stick with it, and not have to worry about missing out on much at all.

It also destroys any need for there to be a multi-console market. If almost every major title gets released on every platform, something's got to give eventually. When you look at SNES vs. Genesis, PSX vs. N64, or Dreamcast vs. PS2, the libraries were so drastically different that a multi-console market was justified.
As for losing exclusives, it hurts the PS3 a lot more than it hurts the 360. The PS3 is still quite pricy, especially given the current global economic situation, where as the 360 starts at $200. Sure the $200 model is crap, but it'll probably be a popular purchase this holiday season. PS3 needs to justify its price tag, and killer exclusives are the only way to do that. Tekken 6 is a huge loss for them because like it or not, it's one of the most popular fighting games out there.

Only 2 Metal Gears were exclusives:
MG2 on MSX
MSG3 on PS2
That's it.
MG was for NES & MSX
Snake's Revenge doesn't count.
MGS was on PSX & PC
MGS2 was on PS2, XBOX, & PC
Honestly, it's too early to tell about MGS4. If Kojima wanted more power for the game he could port it to the PC. (Unlimited Storage Space, More CPU power, More Graphic options.)

PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 should have more shared titles because their hardware is so similar.
I see no point in game exclusives when the hardware and software platform of multiple systems can support it.
From the developer's point of view, there is money to be made from multiple markets, why not take it.
What made the Wii such a great choice for Nintendo was that it isn't the same thing. By being unique it has offerings that require its hardware and there are no substitutions.
For as long as one manufacturer will create a unique platform, I see every reason for multiple consoles on the market. I hope that Sony learned its lesson this time with the PS3 and will make its next console a little more interesting.
Also, consoles that offer backwards compatibility will always be favored in the public's mind.

But if PC, 360, and PS3 can all run the same games, are they unique?

No they aren't, and therefore they shouldn't expect exclusive releases unless they pay for them or develop them.
