That is worse than the 5 worst consoles ever list I saw recently, and they even listed Genesis as #1.

Corrections:
1. switch numbers 1 and 2, as tyop suggested
2. 52 and 51 should be shaved off for ease of use
3. take numbers 11 through 16 and shift them above 22
4. 37 and 38 should not touch; remove one and replace with another game of your choice
5. take the number and create a valid Isosceles triangle with it as the repeating side, then place the number in a place that encompasses the potential length of the third side.
6. 44 should be "super smash browns"
8. number 7 should be removed
9. take 13 and place it 2D4 in either direction
10 resident evil 4 should be both 4 and number two after number 1 for emphasis
11 take the games and reorder them going back through the list so that 11 becomes 50, 1 becomes 49, and so on.
aknowledge this list with the last numbers taking precedence over the earlier ones, and you will have a list that is just as arbitrary.

Donkey Kong isn't even on the list.
The game that broke Nintendo into the American market, made Coleco millions, sunk Atari for good when they flipped out over it, spawned Mario, spurred Nintendo to enter and revive the video game market in America, gave Nintendo a reputation for legal genius when they successfully defended a lawsuit against Universal (based upon the King Kong rights), introduced the world to Shigeru Miyamoto, AND inspired the game that gave Nintendo the edge in the 16-bit wars...isn't even in the top 50.
Therefore, that list is officially bull.

That is a freaking epic sentence.

What exactly was the licensing deal on Donkey Kong? I know Coleco had some sort of deal, but I had an Atari 2600 version of DK.

Coleco had the rights to console version of Donkey Kong, Atari had the rights to the computer versions. The 2600 version of Donkey Kong was actually made by Coleco.
Around this time, Nintendo wanted to bring the Famicom to the US, and wanted to make a deal with Atari to do it. They were gonna finalize it at a trade show (CES, I think), but at that very same show, Coleco was showing off their brand new ADAM computer...and it was running Donkey Kong.
Atari chucked a nutty and told Nintendo the deal was off, since they had the computer rights. Nintendo quickly told Coleco to stop, worked things out, and a few weeks later, went back to Atari to work out the deal again...to find the management had changed and no longer had any interest in the deal at all. The video game market had pretty much imploded at this point, and the new management was more interested in Computers.
So Nintendo decided to go it alone, and the rest is history.

...Madden is probably a good choice for the top 3.
If anything, it influenced the "Release the same game every year and changed the names" model of business that makes EA a metric fuckton of money, plus makes the games themselves sell for 49 cents used if you don't mind playing with 2005's teams.

Madden isn't important, other than it's allowed EA to persist and release tons of shitty licensed games that no one cares about every year. Other than that, it's bland casual fare for a mediocre class of gamers.

The list is "important" games.
Not good ones.
Madden hauls in a ton of cash yearly. I'd say that's important.

This is also why Judd Apatow has work and too much drug money.

I think you just stated it's importance in this sentence. It brought interest in gaming to casual gamers, who want to play out their fantasy of being professional football players. Unfortunately, a lot of people care about their shitty licensed games, just not gamers.

I wanted to comment about how Adventure for the Atari 2600 ended up on the list, but not the original ADVENT. Then I saw Zork. Okay, so they didn't want to have two text adventures on there. But how can you call Zork a turning point on the road to World of Warcraft?

GTA III is number 1? Gay. It's hardly important, other than giving parents an almost legitimate reason to blame video games for their childrens' behavior.

GTA III is still being used as the go to title by senators though. It's a label, a symbol. Like Columbine.

Why both Halo's? Halo one maybe, but not both.
lol Syd, I know tons of people who love madden, just because you don't care about there games every year, doesn't mean no one else does.
There criteria didn't match well with all of there selections, not mentioning the early FF's and then mentioning FF7. FF1 would be more important imo because without it there is no FF7 and if it hadn't sold well, we may not have had a number of RPG's like Chrono Trigger and such.

One guy in the comments section says "if it wasn't for GTA3, half of us wouldn't be gaming right now."
I could live with that.

Madden is a money machine, that's all it is. In terms of the video game industry, it's not important in any way, shape, or form. The only game that Madden 2008 sells is Madden 2009, it doesn't convert people into gamers or encourage them in any way to buy other games.
When I was in college, there were two guys on my floor who had XBox just so they could play Madden. There were an additional five who owned nothing but Madden and Halo 2.
So apparently Madden sells XBoxes. But again, I ask, what does the game do for the gaming industry that's so important? Allows EA to finance a shitload of critically bashed dreck like Boogie, From Russia With Love, and Lego Bionicle? Fan-fucking-tastic. The gaming industry as we know it would exist still exist without Madden. The game didn't take any big chances or redefine a genre, it's a generic fucking football game based around a fat braindead moron who can't call a game to save his life.

Enter the Matrix is on this list. A game I beat in less than 6 hours and traded for a case of High Life.
