With everybody greatly anticipating Capcom's Mega Man 9 because of its retro-style graphics and gameplay, I got to thinking: maybe Sega should take a similar path with its Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. After all, Sonic's true glory days were all on the 16-bit Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console, especially with Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD. Maybe Sega should make another Sonic The Hedgehog title with all of its awesome side-scrolling, "blast processing" glory, not to mention let Michael Jackson make some music for it.

What do you guys think?

This would be the only franchise that I'd recommend the retro treatment for.

Also, MJ totally scared the fuck out of me during the "Stranger in Moscow" vid, when he first shows up.

I would like a new streets of rage game to play. There are a lot of great arcade games that got progressed through games on the genesis, but then (as far as I know or remember) died out, and would make great candidates for remakes. The only question would be which ones are popular enough to warrant it.

That might be cool if they could figure out a way to top Streets of Rage 3.

I think Streets of Rage 2 was and is a better game, not to mention the standard bearer for console beat-em-ups of the era. I am not saying it is the best, but it took the earlier crown jewels like Final Fight and made almost everything better about them.

Streets of Rage 2 and 3 are both great games, even if the third one seemed more like SoR 2.25 or 1.75 whichever makes more sense. Though I'd rather see a new Vectorman game, perhaps on the DS. Of course with none of that FPS bullshit, Vectorman shouldn't be even more thought as SEGA's "Metroid".

Really I think a few companies are actually thinking about doing something like this. Sort of how DC was hinging a new Superman movie on the latest Hulk reboot. I know IGA (from Konami) is interested in doing something like this with Castlevania - but really it all hinges on if Megaman 9 works out good.

I don't know about you but I'd LOVE to see Sega bring the old 16 Bit Sonic back for one more game. Maybe include some more cooperative 2-player gaming in there too (Always played as Tails in a 2-player co-op on Sonic 3 so that I could abuse his practical invincibility. Very Happy

I think they should remake something not Sonic, as it's been done a million times. How about some Streets of Rage or Golden Axe? (I know of the new Golden Axe, but it's not retro)

I never thought about Sega's other franchises when I made this. I would love another Streets of Rage title as well as another Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Alex Kidd, Comix Zone and Vectorman. Maybe Treasure can even revisit Sega and make another Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy .

Totally, my big three for Sega would be Streets of Rage, Gunstar Heroes, and Road Rash (I am familiar with the sony attempts.)

How would you know? I'm sure that if Sega did decide to do this, they would look at how the old Sonic games on the Genesis/ Mega Drive were awesome and do that instead.

Comix Zone and Dynamite Headdy were badass, both were pretty challenging too which I liked.

Comix Zone and Dynamite Headdy were badass, both were pretty challenging too which I liked.

there was a remake of altered beast, but it never made it to america. there was also a new vectorman planned that got canned.

I got the game like 2 months ago, and I have to say when it is not being repetitive, it is very fun.

Castlevania 64 sucked balls, they should have named it something else so not to taint Castlevania's good name. Mega Man Legends was also an abomination to consumers. Not only did it somehow develop a sequel but it also got a side adventure with Tron Bonne. Fuck that series.

Castlevania 64 = Castlevania's Taint

Also, would love a new redo of Altered Beast, Choplifter, Toe Jam & Earl, Flashback, or even General Chaos. I am not a big Michael Jackson fan, but moonwalker did kick ass
