Greeneyedzeke and I were having a conversation this morning about the Wii and what can and can not be done with it as far as network based multi-player games.

As the conversation progressed we discussed that the Wii has bluetooth so voice chat could probably be an easy thing to implement.

But if it has bluetooth... then what the hell is up with the infrared sensor bar that is SO important?

This article goes into great detail to explain how the remotes work:
http://www.wiili.org/index.php/Wiimote

It seems that bluetooth and motion capture are not sensitive enough t handle cursor positioning accurately. So the remotes use bluetooth for everything except for the position of the on screen cursor.

Getting the Wii remote to work on a PC with bluetooth shit is about as exciting to me as someone programming their electric vibrating dildo so they can beat Max 300 on DDR by fucking themselves in the ass with it.

Why would they need to program it?

Can't they just sit on the Wiimote and wiggle?

This guy's four most recent videos all feature some interesting ideas involving the Wiimote. I've also seen a guy use some remote control program on his PC to make his wiimote double as the a controller for his Roomba.

At one time back before I kicked my WoW habbit I got my Wiimote to work with my Macbook Pro and was able to control my character in the game with it.

Well, you just answered the question as to how to make the dumpiest activity in the universe even more dumpy.

I'm not sure I follow.

Playing any game using a Wii remote requires more physical action than a keyboard and mouse. So wouldn't it make a dumpy activity less dumpy?

On another note...

I have no love for WoW. It is pretty much digital smack. You enjoy it in the beginning but each time you play you search for that enjoyment which is degraded with each gaming session. In the end you find that you have spent a huge portion of your life staring at a box with nothing to show for it other than your now crumbled world.

He's talking about the act of playing WoW (which is an awful life-wasting experience) coupled with the time investment required to get the wiimote working with the game.

I agree 100% about WoW. It manipulates your natural need for progress and is nothing more than a work simulator with a GUI. I really wish that it had been more about player skill in the pvp than percentages, stun locks and other boring stuff.

My main problem with the game was the degree to which the "grind" was protracted at later levels; even accomplishing simple quests or moving from point A to point B was turned into a horribly time-consuming, repetitive, and arduous task.

My only accomplishment at that game was playing in a completely unorthodox crazy way and still managing to beat the shit out of everyone in pvp, despite knowing nothing about the "numbers" game behind the game itself.

WoW is a game that people play where you have to arrive at appointments for crashing some overstated volcano 30 times. To level quickly you often have appointments. If you want money in the game you often have to search for nodes, get pissed when someone steals yours, then craft some stupid junk for someone else.

Don't forget the fact that every quest is either a fetch quest or a "kill x amount of guys" quest. Sometimes when the devs feel creative they let you kill two birds with one stone by killing x amount of guys you have to get some item from. FUN!

The entire concept of "quests" to get exp is fucking lame, they should have just ramped up the combat exp and added an actual story and depth to the game instead of pretending the game has a story by shoehorning you into these bullshit scenarios where some asshole needs 50 pig spleens to make a fucking pie.

I enjoy computer hardware, so I had fun getting the Wiimote to work with the game. I just wish I had picked a different game.

Guess what, only one in five pigs actually drop their spleens, so its like "WHY ARE THESE FUCKING PIGS RUNNING AROUND WITHOUT VITAL ORGANS MANG!!!!"

Apparently pointing at the DS's touch screen with the Wiimote and pressing a button on it registers as tapping the stylus on the DS.

Fuck the DS and its two tiny screens.

You're insane in the membrane. It's still awesome.
