... i guess im the only hip hop fan here...
now when i say hip hop... i dont mean the new hip pop thats on the radio...
i myself am allergic to studio gangsters... and i hate puff daddy especially what he did to hip hop...
i mean... undeground shit that still stands for something.. i mean old school shit... when it was still revolutionary... krs one... BDP... x-clan...
or new underground... the coup... organic thoughts... strange fruit project...
anyone else a hip hop-o-phile... or whatever... or am i on my own island?

Actually, for a while I thought I was the only hip hop fan here!
Yeah, KRS One is the shit. I love old school hip hop, 80's and 90's. Leaders of the New School, Gang Starr, Pharcyde... I like too many to name! Now, it's Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne etc... like I said, too many to name!
Yeah, blame Dddy for super commercializin' hip hop.
Speakin' of old school, you know who did that song "Criminal Minded"?

The only thing I know is hip-hop that i like is MC Chris. I also like DJ Shadow, though I dont know if that would be considered hip-hop.

Only the classic stuff is worth anything... NWA, 2Pac, early Snoop Dogg, Run DMC, Public Enemy, Gangstarr...
Trivia: Who was the first person to ever rap in a hit single?

The correct answer is Deborah Harry, but I will accept Blondie....way to go Syd. I like to tell the poseurs that cuz it blows their mind and makes them feel ridiculous, as they very well should

Rap is one of the main genres I like. Classic is aweasome, I like that one line in KRS' verse about how local MCs should be on the radio more. It's true thought. If more local talent was on the radio rap could be more positive instead of just having rappers who only talk about how rich they got by rapping being heard. My faves are Wu-Tang Clan, Aesop Rock, BT&H and Eminem.

That found it's way into my iPod now.. cool song.
I sort of agree with Chunx. Hip hop would be much more positive (and hell, competitive) if it was about local MCs. Watch Fight Klub and see how they do it.
Just to throw more out there, Chamillionaire's "Hip Hop Police and evening news" and Kanye West's "Can't tell me nothing" and "stronger" is pretty cool about now.

I despise popular rap, it's all pretty mindless shit. I listen to MF Doom.

People think I'm just being a single-minded rock fan when I diss rap, but I hate modern rap just as much as I hate modern rock, so there. All music today (actually everything including sports) is a lame version of what it use to be.

Damn straight, and I must say, that's cool hearing it from someone with a Mayhem avatar.
I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, but I do enjoy rap that is socially conscious, and has a message other than "I GOTZ ME A GUN AN' SOME BITCHES AN' HOS!" That irritates me to no end.
