Last week, Pope Benedict XVI criticized much of today's media as being a "destructive" influence. This week, the Vatican has announced plans for a new TV network.
In a statement released Monday, the Vatican said it is working on launching the new network by the end of 2007.
During a speech to a Vatican communications department last Friday, the pontiff spoke about the world's media.
"Undoubtedly, much of great benefit to civilization is contributed by the various components of the mass media," he said, praising "quality documentaries and news services, wholesome entertainment, and thought-provoking debates and interviews."
The internet "has opened up a world of knowledge and learning that previously for many could only be accessed with difficulty, if at all," the Pope added.
"On the other hand, it is also readily apparent that much of what is transmitted in various forms to the homes of millions of families around the world is destructive."
The Vatican already operates an official website, satellite TV channels and a television centre that broadcasts and produces papal ceremonies and other live events from the Italian city state. Also, Vatican Radio beams religious celebrations as well as international news, music and other programming worldwide.

Watch out FOX, American Idol got some real competition now! (that is what I'd like to call a joke)
Back to the serious stuff though:
What kind of shows would air on the Catholic Network? There's already Sunday Mass airing on local television channels, ample educational/religious shows airing on the Vision channel, and I mean there's several channels that still air 7th Heaven and Touched by an Angel...
I know they could air Exorcisms! seriously! That would be so wicked!
What could this Catholic Channel air that isn't already been aired on another network?
Also, this is not meant to be disrespectful, but TV = Money therefore Catholic Network =

There's already a Catholic channel in Boston. It shows some stuff that isn't explicitly Catholic though like Davey & Goliath and Veggie Tales. Sadly they have yet to air Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter.

Jonah a Veggie Tales movie is HILLARIOUS! Jonah gets sent to Nineva to stop people from doing "bad things" which in the Bible refers to some sort of sexual perversion and stealing... but in this film it's to stop people from hitting eachother with fish! Fantastic cartoon film!
The funniest part is the little sidekick Carlisle who says "I'm coming travelling buddy!"...
(This is relevant since Veggie Tales were mentioned above and could easily be shown during early morning Catholic Cartoons on the Catholic Network)

I own two Bibleman movies because of a screening at Bad Movie Night. I love them. So awesomely BAD! It really is an offensive series and the fact that the Christians endorse it is depressing.
However, I am not against another religious channel. I'll be more unopposed to it if they hire me.
Oh yes, I do own a Bibleman action figure.

I saw some movie in the used DVD section at my local comic book store called Escape From Hell. I thought to myself, "Wow, what a bad title" and picked it up expecting it to be some crappy WWII movie. But no, it was in fact a crappy Christian movie and the premise was that they were trying to escape from the *actual* Hell.

I dare you to. All hail Pope Sagat I!!!
Actually, since Sagat is his real name, I've decided his papal name will be Pope Pius XIII.
Also, he should be roughly twice as big as most other characters, just like in the pic.

Back when I was visiting my relatives in New York several years ago, I vaguely remember stumbling upon a Catholic channel that was airing one of those ridiculous Japanese-brainwashing Catholic animes. It was called "The Flying House".
And it was horrid.

I too recall seeing this a few times down here in the Bible belt. But your remark has me curious if there are other "brainwashing Catholic anime."

Well, there's Hellsing. While the Hellsing Organization that Alucard worked was Protestant, there was also the Iscariot Organization who were Catholic and they were much cooler. Alcuard sucked compared to Paladin Anderson.

If you're going to mention Hellsing I guess Trinity Blood bears mentioning, what with a pope and all. Though I was actually referring to anime with Christian overtones.
Flying House was about 2-3 grade school kids, their dog, and a robot and getting stuck in Biblical times through the time travelling house.
