After hearing of Syd's experience, it got me thinking:
Here in Hicktown, USA, we have one GameStop, and 2 EB Games. The GameStop sucks. It's staffed by dumbasses, they overcharge ($60 for UT 1999???), and the store smells like shit for some odd reason. I don't shop there.
Now, of the two EB Games whe have here, one is in a mall and is staffed by lazy emo kids and people who exude nerdiness levels beyond even what I would be comfortable with (these are the guys who go to every Star Trek convention, and then argue about some incredibly small and inane detail that no one cares about). Anyway, I don't shop there either.
The other EB Games, oddly enough, is awesome. They give fairly good trade-in rates, their prices are lower than anywhere else, their staff is friendly, they stock rare and classic games, and there's hardly any lines. So I'm wondering what these stores are like in your hometown? What's the best/worst one, and have you experienced some douchebaggery?

Well ever since EB and Gamestop merged there is no price differences at all in our area. There are 2 Game Crazy stores and about 5 EB/Gamestop stores in a 5 mile radius. Then there is my store. I used to work at FuncoLand before Gamestop entered the scene. Then worked for the evil conglomerate.
Everyone I used to work with was really nice and we'd joke around every time I come in to see whats going on. There was one time where I found a mint copy of Dragon Warrior IV, and wanted to buy it. However the District Manager came out saw me there and in a pissed off Lex Luger Roid Rage he said I wasn;t allowed to purchase it.
I said I was a paying customer and I could sue him for refusing my business, he then proceeded to pull out the employee handbook and said that if such a case of profitability with another organization should arise that person, if known to be working for another company, may and can be refused purchases and trades. I was pissed.
After he left I said can I buy it now and my buddy said yea, sold me the game and then the douchebag fired him for insubordination. Feeling bad I hired him to work at our store, and since then we've been holding a yearly "Grant Anderson is an Idiot" Sales Event, and a "Were better than Gamestop" Sales event.

We have an EB Games here too. The prices are quite high, but only a bit more than Wal Mart.
I mostly shop at a flea market. The PS2 games cost around 15$ and there's a one year warranty I think (they carefully search for any problems with the used discs before buying them)

I have no problem with EB or gamestop. I know lots of people that work there, and overall it's a very enjoyable enviroment.
UT 1999 is sixty dollars because unreal anthology just came out a while ago, and it has all of the unreal games on it, not just UT 1999. if yo uwant UT, just illegally download it... illegally.

I just used that price because it was retardedly high. They also had RCR EX for $20 used, and regular Contra for $40.
And damn, Douche, I wish your store was out here. Our EB Games is pretty OK, but your store sounds waaaaay better.

Once upon a time there were two stores in Roswell. One was a gamestop, and the other was an EB games. The gamestop was run by lazy imbeciles, you could squeeze water out of a stone before getting them to help you. The EB was a magical place where every worker present knew you name, knew their videogames, and would point you where you needed to go. Then they would chew the cud with you for 30 minutes about whats happening in videogames. Then gamestop bought them out, and replaced them with the jackasses that they had in their stores.
I buy from elsewhere now. And no, I don't want your shitty magazine or your shitty card.

I don't get that. Why does GameStop have such retarded-ass employees? I asked for Diablo 2 Battlechest once to the guy's face, and he just says without even looking at me "Sorry, we're out of World of Warcraft." What the fuck?
However, our EB Games out here is like the one you describe. The clerks will help you out, and then just shoot the shit for a bit. I remember buying my Xbox whilst talking about Command & Conquer 3. Awesome.

They actually, Gamestop, when they bought out EB kept all the same employees in our area they just switched the POS (Point of Sale) system. The reason behind Gamestops craptastic service is such...they use the G.A.M.E.S. process.
G- Greet the Customer
A - Advise on games that need to be sold or games that are harder to sell (it doesn't hurt to talk up a game) first then...
M- More information. Find out what systems the customer has and then...
E - Encourage the sale of games for each system as well as additional add-ons.
S - Say Goodbye
Notice how the two most important parts of the customers experience are the shortest.
Thats straight out of the handbook.
Lol maybe in time Char you will see our stores , we don't have magazines but we do have 10% discounts (either based on how much you trade or buy) and sales every month, we also have college and student ID discounts. Also every game we have that is 14.99 or higher is $5 cheaper than Gamestop. **Random Plug**
We own EB and Gamestop in this area. Lol even the guys that work there buy from us. lol. They really enjoy the Grant Anderson is an idiot sale. I'd explain it but it wouldn't make sense.

I love that. It doesn't hurt... except that crap like that keeps me from ever buying from them.

G- be incredibly Gay.
A- Act like an Asshole.
M- Make no effort to pay attention to the customer.
E- Eventually get around to attempting to make a purchase, but fuck up the register/scratch the disc.
S- Say goodby to another customer, he's not coming back.
But go ahead and explain the Grant Anderson is an idiot sale. I've had some experience with GameStop douchebags.

Lol i like your take on the G.A.M.E.S. Process, we made a very similar one at the Store.
Well like I said Grant Anderson was a district manager that came into Gamestop with no Video Game knowledge, just sales experience. When I used to be manager at FuncoLand, I would be doing things such as closeouts and training and he would take over the sales floor. He starts selling Saturn Games to parents of kids for Christmas saying they were playstation games.
He would also constantly sell Genesis games to people looking for Super Nintendo games. The man was an idiot. He would constantly intertuppt me when I was helping a customer and say hey don't forget to tell them how they can save 10%! I knew the customer and I knew they had a card already, and I was like all enthuisatically "Hey would you like to know how to save 10%?" The guy must have seen that I was messing around and he said "Sure!!!" just as corny as I had started the conversation.
I was like see this issue of Game Informer you already have? He was like yea, tell me more!? Then I said well with the subscription you already have you can save 10% more than I can! (Because we didn't get a discount, we did get a free magazine) Needless to say Grant was not very appreciative of the condesending view of the policies I had announced in front of the whole store.
So after a painful year I left and opened a store with my friend, who was a manager at the Babages a.k.a. software etc. The we commenced the first annual Grant Anderson is an Idiot sale.
During the sale we dress like him, Suit and bow tie with suspenders, Pink hanky in our front pocket, and we basically sell games calling them Super Nintendos and Saturns all day. For Example "Yea can I get Final Fantasy 7? " "Sure, you want the Super Nintendo or Saturn Version" Its basically a 25% off sale to all the Gamestop and EB guys we have been friends with, Plus all the new guys wether they work there still or not. We sell 10% discount cards for a dollar, but the catch is you have to use it that day (seeing how no one would rather save 10% then 25% its more of a gratuity thing).
Ill have to tape the next one and post it on YouTube.

Sounds damn funny. (This guy sounds like my Drafting and AV teacher, Mr. Blakely. He's obsessed with semantics, and tells us shit that we already know. And when you do need help, he tries for about a second, fucking things up along the way. The only way he'll help anyone is if it's a girl with big tits, the pervhole. Always either wearing flannel Al Boreland style shirts, or Bill Cosby sweaters, with his pants hiked up to his man titties.)

Go Amazon... The unloved provider.
EDIT: Shit, sorry. I forgot this is an anti-Amazon site.

Yeah, there was a thread about bad Amazon experiences a few months ago. But I defended them then and I will continue to do so.

Any company who can deliver a CD to my doorstep over an hour before the in-store release is A1 on my list!!! We got RHCP Stadium Arcadium delivered at 8am... now that's service!!!
Apple also rocks, because I got my 2nd gen. iPod Shuffle on November 2nd, when they were only released in-store on November 3rd... Go Apple! (I'm not at all biased given I work for them lol)

Fact: Gamestop, EB, and Software etc are all the same company. And, they all sell the exact same stuff.
So, why the fuck do we have both a EB and a Software etc in the local mall, with a Gamestop across the street? (There also used to be a Babbages in that mall, too.)
And, to be even more fucked up, the EB and Software etc in the mall sometimes have different prices on the same titles!

Here there's a Babbage's in the mall, an EB in a strip mall about 1 mile away from the mall, and a GameStop in another strip mall 1 mile away from the EB.

It's not. They're all separate facets of the same company, much like Microsoft and Apple.

They're 2 heads of the same hydra. That's why Mac OS is becoming more Windows-ish, and Windows is becoming Mac-like. Eventually the 2 will be merged into 1 OS.

Software ETC. in my town had a shitty selection of PC games and awful prices. Every week it seemed like the PC wall was getting smaller and smaller, until it finally got mushed into the "PC corner", where one shelf of shitty games sat.
Game crazy had very modestly priced, and an abundant selection of NES games, of which me and my friend purchased around 50, including classics such as Mario 3 and Blaster Master for as little as 3 bucks.
If I want PC games, I just go to Best Buy or buy online.

The Windows OS was originally designed as a rip-off of the Mac OS, because at the time PC OSes sucked. OS/2 Warp in particular was not that great.
