I think I finally have enough information to be comfortably psyched for the game. It honestly just feels like the western RPG we've been building up to for decades. Interesting storyline focusing on the player character, stat-building based on what you (role-)play instead of just clicking on "add point", and an open-world Scandinavian fantasy land where you fight dragons in real time combat all rolled together just makes me feel giddy. I really hope it lives up to all of the videos:

While I won't be buying it in the near future, Skyrim looks pretty exciting, and I'm hoping that the game is as immersing as it appears to be.

Yep, this is where I am too. I'm looking forward to reading the reviews and watching the inevitable dissection of the game though.

This will be one of my rare Day 1 purchases. I have (obviously) high hopes for the game, and I pray it lives up to half of the hype.

I am in the same boat, Greg.
Gonna have to pick this one up on Friday, maybe at midnight, fuck it. Anyways, it's gonna be kinda brutal with this game overlapping into Zelda.
You have a 360/PS3, right? You should be able to run it.

Pretty sure he doesn't have a current gen.
It looks awesome, and I want it but I know it'll suck up too much of my life when I could be doing productive shit.

I'm not 100% sure my computer will run it very well. It is getting old enough that newer games are starting to chug a little on it, but I'm buying this at midnight for the PC regardless. Not making the mistake of buying it for a console like I did Oblivion and then having to buy it for PC later to play with mods. If it comes down to it I've needed an excuse to upgrade from dual core to quad core and replace my two older video cards with a newer model...
Anyway I'm super stoked for this game, it looks awesome. If I can manage to get through a week more of classes without letting it consume all my time then I'll get all of Thanksgiving break to play it uninterrupted. I'm hoping it is all it is hyped to be, but I'm pretty convinced it will be.

So uh... the developers have came out and said that Skyrim will have "infinite quests" using it's Radiant Quest system.
Quote:
How Skyrim pulls off the infinite quest chains is through its Radiant quest system. Radiant can randomly generate a new task for your Dragonborn based on where you are in the game. Things like hunting bandits in places you haven't been to yet or picking flowers for villages are just some of the quest options that will never end. The Radiant quest system is there to help you discover all of the amazing world that Bethesda has created.
“The world is probably the one thing that sets (Skyrim) apart from other games,” he said. “It feels really real for what it is … It’s just fun to explore.”
Skyrim also features factions like the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood that will act as quest hubs once you complete their story missions. According to the interview, Skyrim's also "sprinkled with secrets and minor bits of narrative that you’ll have to piece together as you explore, an aspect of game design Howard says the team picked up while working on their last game, Fallout 3."
This just became insane... I may disappear for a couple months altogether

I remember reading about the Radiant Quest system. On paper, this sounds very cool and could help keep the game interesting between major plot- or guild-related quests. Still, hopefully it turns out to be something with variety in the coming days.

So it will keep randomly generating fetch quests for you? LOL. Sounds like another way to artificially extend your play time.

I thought the Radiant AI was pretty badass in Oblivion, until I watched an LP of the game.... apparently my playthrough was relatively bug-free.

Hehe, I thought you said the other night that you were in fact going to get it, Josh?
I caved and ended up pre-ordering it earlier today...

I hope it doesn't boil down to that
[SPOILER:6afa742d85]After the Dark Brotherhood storyline was complete I pretty much stopped going to meeting the night mother [/SPOILER:6afa742d85]

Oh I still totally plan on it. It's not infallible though, I can still peak apart parts of the game I feel will be weak.

The "infinite quest" thing just sounds like repeatable quests to me. Whether you're fetching flowers for a girl or fetching bits of iron ore for a blacksmith, it's still the same quest.

That sounds like a personal hell for any perfectionist that wants to get everything there is to get in a game.
I was given Oblivion for the PS3. It's still in the plastic wrap. I won't get Skyrim unless the same person ends up giving it to me as well.
