Round 2: Electric Boogaloo. Edit: Forgot that this is round 3, but I don't think there's any rhyming fun names that normally go with that.
Oh, wait, I mean, Kirby Super Star.
Same rules as Satsui's collab, if you're interested in doing a run, sign up here and list off your top 2 or 3 stages, and also let me know how much experience you have with the game. If we can get enough folks that know where the hidden goodies are, we can do a 100% run of the game, I think that'd be pretty sweet.
Have a quote from the bunny, since there's no need for me to paraphrase this stuff, but it still bears repeating...
UsaSatsui wrote: |
*To sign up, tell me (via IRC, thread, or PM) you want in and which stages you want to do.
*DO NOT SIGN UP UNLESS YOU CAN BEAT THE ZONES YOU ARE SIGNING UP FOR! Also do not sign up if you just don't want to do it or don't care.
*The person with Spring Breeze plays and records their zone. Use the rom from Vimm's Lair (vimm.net) and ZSNES v1.51. You can do it any style you wish.
*At the end of the stage, save a state and send one copy to the person with the next zone, and one copy to me. That person uses the state and records their stage Try not to send off a state with 0 lives or anything, if you really tanked the stage that badly, just redo it.
*Videos will be uploaded to a group YouTube account I'll be creating in a little bit. EDIT - It's here: http://www.youtube.com/user/SydlexiaCollab
*If someone wants to drop out or doesn't get their part one in a reasonable amount of time, or if someone uploads utter trash, the backup for that stage will play it instead. |
...Okay, so I paraphrased some of it, but the Sonic stuff doesn't apply. Have a handy stage list as a distraction:
Spring Breeze - Very easy, should be doable by one person, no hidden stuff here.
Dyna Blade - Also easy, doable by one person or two, depending how many interested parties we get, couple hidden buttons that open up secret areas.
Gourmet Race - With practice, very easy, doable by one person, no hidden stuff whatsoever.
Great Cave Offensive - Experienced players only, please, there's 60 treasures to find, and if possible, we want 'em all found. Could be done by by 1, 2, or 4 people (as trying to split the 4 sections of the stage among three people would be challenging).
Meta-Knight's Revenge - Tough, not sure how it could be split up, or if it should be. No hidden stuff that I recall, but I might be wrong on that, never was a big fan of this stage.
Milky Way Wishes - Somewhat tough, could be split up among a couple people as well. 19 hidden powers to find, one of which is quite secret.
Arena - Quite hard, ideally done by one experienced player.
Samurai Kirby and Megaton Punch - If we can finagle some netplaying, matches between folks in either of these minigames would be fantastic.
There is a /very/ slim chance that this could turn into a big 2 player netplaying event, which would double everyone's playtime, but that's only if we can work out the kinks and get things to work smoothly on both sides. If anyone is up for netplay testing and tweaking, let me know.
So, have at it, folks, sign ups are now open.

I am prepared for any stage; I'd prefer the Arena or the Meta Knight stages. I could also do netplay testing, if somebody wants to co-ordinate with me over IRC.

I'll play. I'd want to do Spring Breeze, but I already have a run on that, so...meh. I'll volunteer for Dyna Blade, or even take a shot at Revenge of Meta Knight.

I'm up for this.
If possible, I'd prefer The Great Cave Offensive and Milky Way Wishes. Meta-Knight's Revenge is alright, too.
Hopefully we can get netplay up and going.

Didn't read the whole post but I've beaten every scenario 100% and would like to NOT do the Gourmet Race or Megaton Punch, Samurai Kirby.

I'd take Meta Knight. DynaBlade would be ok too, considering I'm our resident avianophile. (Not sure I could do a 100% run on them though, for full disclosure...it's been a long time.)
Alternately, I'd volunteer to be our mini-game person...I'll need some practice to get Samurai Kirby and Gourmet Race up to snuff, but I'm confident I can do it. (If we put these at the end of the series, It'll give me plenty of lead time.)

Will take pretty much anything, the hard stuff would be nice, but everyone wants those stages.

Totally in.
I'll take Spring Breeze. It's short and easy, and since I'm leaving in a few days, it's something I can beat before then. I'd be willing to help with Netplay stuff as well.

I'd join in, but I'm not sure if I can do the whole recording stuff. I do have a name suggestion however, "The Kirby Derby".

I am in!
I'll take any of the first three stages, because my momma taught me to be humble and also not to go for the biggest piece of candy in the jar. I mean, I do it anyways, but what the hell
Also, I'm an average Kirby gamer with no experience in this particular game

Eh...Screw it. I'm in! I may need some help with what buttons to press and when, but I've beaten Superstar before and I'm confidant in my Kirby abilities.
I choose either Spring Breeze, Gourmet Race, or Metaknights Revenge. If all those are taken, I'll take Milkyway Wishes. I don't know where any secret stuff is, and I suck at GCO.

Though if you want to do it another way, you can record using Zsnes pretty easily. It's not that hard, to be honest.

I'll have a shot at the easiest stages with no secrets as i have no experience with this game whatsoever or even some netplay stuff!
So Spring Breeze or Gourmet Race. Depending on what i do i'll have a blast through before i record it.

If there is any room left, I'll do anything that anyone else doesn't want to do.
Edit: I should note that I have never played the original, but have beaten the DS remake 100%

Here we go, stage assignments:
Spring Breeze - MellowMeek (Alowishus)
Dyna Blade - UsaSatsui (SoldierHawk)
Gourmet Race - Sehkmaenzo (Thunderhorse)
Great Cave Offensive - Douche McCallister, Preng, ZeroX600, lavalarva (Shardea, Other GCO'ers)
Meta-Knight's Revenge - SoldierHawk (UsaSatsui)
Milky Way Wishes - Shardea, Myself (Not Sure)
Arena - Not Sure (ZeroX600)
As with Satsui, each stage has its main recorder(s) and its backup recorder(s). Since some of the stages are larger, they'll be split up amongst various folks. You four doing the Great Cave Offensive, you have a bit of time before you get started, so you can battle amongst yourselves as to who gets which section. Shardea, you'll be taking on the first four worlds in Milky Way Wishes, Floria, Aqualiss, Skyhigh, and Hotbeat. I'll handle Cavios, Mecheye, Halfmoon, and the Heart of Nova/Marx fight.
As for the rest of the usual stuff, have another slightly edited Satsui quote:
UsaSatsui wrote: |
When it is your turn, here is what you have to do:
Record your part (any way you want). At the end of your part (when you get back to the main stage selection screen), save a state (F2). Make sure you got the rom from Vimm's Lair. Send that save state to the person with the next stage, and also to me (my e-mail address is Fernin320 at gmail dot com). You have 5 days from the time you receive the last save state to do this.
Once you send the save state off, upload it to our collab channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/SydlexiaCollab . I'll let you know the password in PM, or you can ask me or anyone who has it (Preng right now has it), but do not post it public, and do not post anything other than game videos on the channel. Once you upload it and do everything you want to do with it, be sure to log out. And of course, post it in this thread. You have another 5 days to do this. Please don't upload your video if the person in front of you hasn't yet.
If you need more time, ask for it in this thread. However, if you don't let us know what's taking too long, or take way too much time, or put together something completely shoddy, or just aren't up to it and want to drop out, your backup will take over the stage (I'll send the savestate). They're under the same rules you were. If the backup can't do it, BlazingGlory is the backup backup (Sorry, Blaze, I couldn't really fit you in anywhere else).
If you have any questions about recording, or other problems, or you just wanna call me an asshole, you can PM me or find me on IRC. |
You're up first, Meek, so good luck to you, and to everyone involved!
...Nearly forgot, we'll be going with ZSNES instead of SNES9x for the emulator of choice here, if you're not sure how to record with it, pester either UsaSatsui, MellowMeek, or Preng (something I'll be doing as well, as I'm not entirely how it works myelf).

To create movie files with the ZSNES emulator, I recommend you read the description on this video. It also supplies this link which has a lot of the programs ready to go, though you will likely still need to tinker with some of the ZSNES options as the description lists. You may also need the K-Lite codec pack.
I used the download link in the past and will say it was free of viruses and other crapware, but it probably wouldn't hurt to do some quick scans anyways.
Anyways, for the Great Cave Offensive I'd much prefer the game's second zone, which is cave-themed.

Awesome. So happy we're using ZSNES...extra lack of hassle for me, since it's my emulator of choice anyway.
And hooray for Meta-Knight! One of my favorite stages. I think the escape at the end might be my favorite moment of the entire game.
Also: when we upload it to the channel, are we allowed to add annotations or anything? Or should we stick to annotations in the description? (Which I hate thanks to YT's new layout, but it does prevent clutter of the video itself.)

Sure thing. The channel is for everyone to use as they see fit so long as it's done for the purpose of adding collaborative videos (no personal stuff, no anything that could get both my accounts banned, you know). Ask around for the password, it's not a secret, I just don't want it published on the boards where any idiot can see it.
In short, yeah, feel free to add annotations.

Sounds good, and I /am/ more familiar with ZSNES than the other one.
It looks like you don't have someone for the Arena yet? I'll again volunteer myself, in case there's nobody else to do it...
