I don't think we discussed this, but back in December, GameFAQs voters named Majora's Mask the game of the decade, beating out Smash Brothers Brawl in the finals. The other semifinalists were Final Fantasy X and Fallout 3.
I'm surprised Brawl made it that far... Brawl sucks. Brawl beat out Melee to make it into the Top 8, then beat out Twilight Princess to make it the quarterfinals.
For some reason, GameFAQs defined the decade as 2000-2009, which is wrong. The decade is 2001-2010. Had they defined it correctly, Majora's Mask wouldn't have even been eligible.
It's neat that a Nintendo game won, and pretty neat that such an "old" game won, but I dunno if Majora's Mask is really worth of the title. It's an amazing game to play through... once. Majora's Mask is an intricate puzzle, and once you've solved the puzzle, it's a lot less fun to play through, and is actually pretty short.

Yeah, it's almost impossible to bring myself to play through it again, but the first time was quite a ride and fantastic. It certainly shouldn't be considered the best game of the decade though.
Using that 2001 to 2010 timeframe, Deus Ex should have won. It's easily the most replayable game I have ever encountered, and I'm not even a big PC gamer.

compared to smash bros brawl, final fantasy X, and fallout 3, i would easily choose majoras mask over those other three.

You Shouldn't have done that

Maybe I'm just weird, but I personally love replaying Majora's Mask a few times every year, while I found Ocarina of Time to be kind of boring after the first playthrough.

I wouldn't consider it the best of the last decade, but it's definitely an amazing game, and my second favorite Zelda right after the original.

There are a few things in MM that I fucking hate doing. Like getting the Wedding Mask or whatever it's called. That fucking sucks.
Actually, I guess that's the only thing I hate doing.

I enjoyed the kefka subplot far more than the actual story.

This listing has some huge flaws, but whatever, it is the same as any battle list, they are based on the demographic of the readership.
What I found interesting though was when I read the scores I noticed something.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/gotd.html
Paper Mario won against World of Warcraft, but has less votes by a large margin.
Banked: 600
Paper Mario: 2771
World of Warcraft: 10086
Also interesting is that Paper Mario sold 1.4 million copies. World of Warcraft sold 29 million.

The average age of a person voting on gamefaqs is probably between 12 and 15, GP, I don't think they really care much about how many units one game or another has sold. Gamefaqs contests are always about personal opinion, stats on how well the game has sold and such like that have a much smaller factor there.
Also, I think most folks would agree with me that one game selling more units than another doesn't mean it's flat out better.

Fixed.
And while I'm here, I might as well point out my displeasure that Mega Man 9 finished 64th out of 128.

That's not what those numbers mean. I was confused by that at first, too. What those numbers mean is that 2000+ people bet that Paper Mario would win that battle whereas 10000+ bet that WoW would win. The 600 means that 600 people banked their scores before betting, and broke their multiplier chains, because they weren't sure who would win and didn't want to lose their points.

Confession: I have never played Majora's Mask. Nor, honestly, any Zelda games beyond I, II, LtP and OoT. This, despite my extreme love for all things Zelda. With emulators around there's really no excuse, but I just haven't gotten around to it.

Got it. Thank you for explaining. I still think this was a ridiculous outcome that WoW would lose to Paper Mario. By volume of sales alone, it should steam roll it... but my guess is that the demographic is such that most WoW players aren't looking anything up at GameFaqs. Why would they?

^ I imagine that WoW players encompass every demographic by sheer numbers alone.

This is one of the few things in the game that I had to look online to do, simply because I messed up so many times, and since you have to wait around for time...I just said fuck it and did it that way. It's a good thing too, since I was hellbent on getting the "Pikachu mask" from the moment I saw it. The whole ordeal of course takes place during the majority of the game, so you can't complete the task very early on. Sakon's hideout was a pain in the ass the first time I tried it as well.

I'm playing it on that gamecube promotional disc on that has Zelda 1 Zelda 2 OOT and of course Majora's Mask, not digging the weird audio from the emulation.
How come that disc has box art that says in big ass red letters NOT FOR SALE but I've bought like 3 over the years, does Gamestop not give a fuck, does Nintendo not want to bother enforcing it?

Yup...I first played it on the Gamecube disc...HATED that glitch that happened when I went from area to area.
I think the reason they have the "Not for Resale" is because assholes might try to sell the game back to the store or some shit. I know my friend did that with the copy of MGS4 that came with his PS3. Yeah, I know the Zelda disc was a pack in deal only, but you never know...some stores are stupid.

It's just a little sound skip that happens when you go from one part of town to another, it's not a big deal.
